The immigration issue in this country will not be solved until we take a closer look at the root of the problem and not just the symptoms. Corporate America, the wealthy and elite all depend on the labor of undocumented aliens or illegal immigrants to expand their bottom lines. Unfortunately, the same people who desire these higher profits also run the government which goes a long way to explain why it is impossible for action to be taken.
You also have to look at the situation from another perspective. We are in a global economy with wages subject to the same principles of supply and demand as other commodities. I am not making the point that illegal aliens take jobs that no one else wants. That is too easy of an explanation. It is more likely that they are taking jobs that others will not do for the wage offered.
America has prospered for years at the benefit of less expensive labor costs worldwide. To make up for that, we offer billions of dollars in aid to other countries. Its a gesture other these nations have been willing to accept because their elite profit from it just like ours does.
However, it now appears that we might be entering a period in which the economics of United States are reset bringing them more in line with the other 6 billion people on the planet. Gas prices aren't going to come down. Inflation will not ease and employment will stagnate. Its an inevitable situation that almost mirrors that which Japan went through for much of the 90's and early part of this decade.
For America to continue a course similar to the last century or so, we need to solve a host of internal problems not the least of which is immigration reform. The daily news captures many of our shortcomings in policy for our review. But, so far, we have failed to act in hopes that time and ignorance will eliminate them.
We tend to regard each issue as individual and unrelated to each other. This phenomena works out well for the politicians in charge because they can successfully spin any issue, make it a divisive talking point amongst the American people. By doing this, they can continue to direct our attention away from the true crises of our country. Luckily for them, immigrations has become just such an issue.
