How to make a great sandwich

This is a story I wrote about my favorite grilled cheese 'memory'. I wrote it for a competition that 'Kraft' was having a couple of days ago.

My favorite grilled cheese memory was when my Mom had purchased a sandwich maker - and the taste was so different and better than a regular grilled cheese sandwich. The sides of the sandwich were 'sealed' so no chance of any cheese getting on your fingers, or losing any cheese due to 'fall-out'. I liked to add tomato to my grilled cheese sandwiches, and this sandwich maker was the perfect solution to making sure everything inside the sandwich 'stayed put', rather than to defect onto the plate - or worse, and onto the floor!

I was so thankful to my Mother for having the good sense/judgment to see fit to making this wonderful purchase. One could add all sorts of goodies to their grilled cheese, and turn it into a true masterpiece. I always looked forward to lunchtime, and the promise of a truly perfect grilled cheese sandwich, loaded with my favorite ingredients! Sometimes it would have a little onion, which would give it a kick, and there's all sorts of other things that could be added if one just used a little imagination.

I also tried different types of bread to see which held up better with the addition of tomato in the grilled cheese sandwich. It seemed to be that the hardiest type was hands-down the whole wheat variety. Your typical 'run-of-the-mill' white bread didn't seem to stand-up so well to all the juices from the tomato (but nevertheless still tasted delicious). Normally, I would have the 'always-grandly-anticipated' grilled cheese sandwich made with white bread exclusively, but somehow with the sandwich maker the taste of the whole wheat wasn't so terrible, and I ended up going with the whole wheat option more often than the usual white bread mainstay.

And, I'm sure, it goes without saying that my grilled cheese sandwich was never perfection without the 'crowd-pleasing' Kraft brand of delicious cheese. Kraft knows what they're doing when it comes to making the tastiest cheese! I don't know quite how they do it, but they do - time and time, and time again! Bravo Kraft, on giving your fans the best products over and over, for so many years! How can we thank you? I know - by continuing to buy your products, and (of course) to continue to eat grilled cheese sandwiches well into our 'golden' years! I mean, how could anyone ever give up grilled cheese sandwiches anyway? It's beyond me!

Well, now, (of course) I'm craving a (what else) delicious grilled cheese sandwich made with delicious Kraft cheese singles! I wonder if it would be grand with the addition of black olives, some bell pepper, a little garlic powder, a little onion, a mushroom slice or two....does anyone know where I'm going with this? Obviously most of these ingredients are the toppings that you'll find on most vegetarian pizzas - and with the use of the ever-dependable sandwich maker, will inevitably 'stay-put' inside the sandwich where they will do the best job of helping to create (quite possibly) the tastiest sandwich ever!
