Poetry: Mistaken identity

Created on: April 18, 2008   Last Updated: February 03, 2012

No I am not,
nor have I ever been
Do not mistake me,
I am but one of many men

I care not to know you
Nor do I need your remorse
I shall remain inside me
And stay the steady course

Again you have mistaken me
for yet another
I am not the one you seek
Neither your father nor brother

I can do little
for your misery or pain
I struggle myself
Simply to realize gain

Please don't expect
more than I have
I give you my all
for a soothing salve

Would that I could
But ye know I cannot
You are once more mistaken,
my identity is not

You seem a worthy fellow,
earnest and true
Would you hear my words
And do what you can do

Be no more mistaken
I am alone as it must be
I am only a worthless
Can't you tell, can't you see?

It is your mistaken identity.
