Clawing welcome mats of coir
Aloof independence one can only admire

One moment tinkering, innocently toying with her bell
Her pounce extracting an unholy yell

Comfortable companion at her discretion
Codependents should really heed her lesson

Friendship is more than command and obey
It takes more than food to coerce her to stay

At your beck and call she definitely is not
Her friendship when ill can never be forgot

Cute & fluffy she started out her life
Ferocious hunter she now happily causes strife

Wildlife beware,
she doesn't care

When the cupboards are bare,
she'll consume her food rare

Though dark like the night and hidden from sight
When dogs bark or cars screech, Collars catch or floods increase

You'll find me searching in the night
Along alleys, down drains I'll seek that specter that defies light

Bespeaching, coercing, cajoling cooperation
Mystically mesmerizing eyes mistrust, exasperation

Love her I will, I don't know why
Le Chat Noir, friend of mine she does now lie

At the bottom of the garden where the faeries be
In Elysium fields chasing butterflies free.
