Poetry: Candles

by Donna Oglesby

Created on: April 17, 2008

Flickering candles in the night
Cast dancing shadows with their light
Thoughts drift away with the warming glow
As dancing silhouettes put on a show

The illumination entrances me
As amber mingles with ebony
The air is filled with an intoxicating scent
Arousing romantic thoughts to vent

As the reflections on the wall
Dance as if they're at a ball
The mood is set for a torrid romance
As lovers commence a sensual dance

Ignited by passions flickering flame
Two lovers burn with ardor to tame
Bodies melting into one
Our candle dance has just begun

There within a soft amber gleam
Bodies meld in fluid stream
Burning with a heated fire
Then smoldering in passions desire

Where candles once burned bright
Now they fade to flickering light
As lovers who shared in romance
Watch as the fading flames dance
