The old Remington,
Over there on the table

Was his darling, his baby,
His shiny, black mistress.

He stroked her steel sides
Fondled her round keys.

Fed four kids and one wife
On what he could get her to do.

He loved her more than me.
That's what I'd tell him when

At 2 A.M. I'd hear their goings on.
The tapping rhythmic tapping of

Their ongoing affair. Where
Their union continued till

I'd get out of bed and holler
"You're waking up the house."

Funny how things work out.
Right around the time her

E key stuck and her platen grew pits;
Her ribbon faded away.

He carried her out of his office
And brought her downstairs

"I'll just leave this here," he said.
To a place of honor

She retired that day.
And I learned I did love her

When a new PC took her place,
I no longer could hear him create.
