Considering that Nicole Richie gave birth in January, I'm going to go ahead and assume she does have what it takes to become a mother. Unless she pulled the wool over our eyes and had a surrogate, that sneaky li'l minx. But I'm going to be nave and say, yes, Miss Richie has all the necessary female parts to give birth.

Now, to focus on the grander, less literal, question being asked, I'll go with the old "None of your beeswax." This is not for us little, non-celebrity, folk to decide. Whatever kind of mother she will be to her child, the kid's mom is still Nicole Richie, and her grand pappy is Lionel Richie. The man wrote "We Are The World," for Pete's sake. Commodore children don't have abortions! That said, I think if the majority vote turns out to be a no here, she should have that li'l one taken away immediately.

I mean, if all eggs and semen were equipped with crystal balls to determine what kinds of parents we would be, the world would be far less populated. And wonderful, I say. Science should really get working on that. No one's having a debate - online anyway, it's surely happening in a courtroom somewhere - over whether the woman down the street from you who's on welfare and has six children already has "what it takes" to be a mommy.

We all know parents who have been charged with heroin possession, or have driven under the influence of marijuana and Vicodin. And most of those parents certainly do not do what Richie did afterwards in co-founding The Richie Madden Children's Foundation. And PETA may hate her because she's been seen wearing fur, but that thing will keep her child warm in the wintertime. And who among us doesn't wish that OUR mothers were nominated for a Teen Choice Award or had actually won a Hollywood Style Award? I'll raise my hand. Me!

And, hey, Britney Spears has done a decent job thus far, yes? We can all agree on that. So let's give Nicole and Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan and the Olsen twins and Dakota Fanning and Achy Breaky Heart's kid a chance at motherhood. This isn't an exclusive club. These wonderful miracles happen every day, every hours, every minute.
