PROLOGUE: 1787 A.D.
The night was darker than normal. Clouds blocked the light from the moon and the stars seemed unusually dull in the summer night. There was a slight breeze that chilled any mortal to the bone, and an eerie silence hung in the air. You couldn't hear the birds chirping or the owls hooting. It was unnerving.
George Hillman was wandering the streets, completing the varying chores assigned to him. Sometimes he would just have to pick something up from the general store, others he would have to deliver something to a neighbor. Right now, he was on his way back from a neighbor's house, after trading good meet for cloth for his mother to sew the cloths with. He didn't like the silence, but paid little attention to it. He just wanted to get home, being tired after a ling day of work.
All of a sudden, the clouds seemed to lower to the ground, creating a nearly impenetrable fog. He thought he saw some thing move to his right, and jerked his head to make sure he wasn't imagining it. Too late. It was already gone.
He could have sworn that he had seen something, but figured he must have been imagining it. He pushed the thought to the back of his mind, and continued walking home. He was tired.
After a few more minutes of walking, George saw it again. He was sure of it this time. Someone was following him. The thought scared him, and he began to run down the road, eager to get home. It was a big mistake.
There was a high pitched screech, some sort of communication between some unknown species, then, out of nowhere, something came flying at him. George let out a scream of terror as he saw it.
It looked almost human, except it had a more defined face, and it could fly. Whatever it was seemed to have been hunting, hunting him. George tried to get away from it, but couldn't. It was too fast, and had grabbed him with its bony hands in a matter of seconds.
George tried to scream again, but nothing came out but a gasp. What ever it was had lowered its head and opened its mouth to reveal its razor sharp teeth, which it quickly sunk into his neck. Only then did George realize what it was, but it was too late. The vampire had found its meal.
