The signs of Spring are all around you!
I am sure you have heard the old adage, "Spring has sprung!" What exactly does that mean? Well, I've been looking around and noticing the signs of Spring that are everywhere! Spring has tiptoed in to spread its cheer after those long, depressing winter months. Spring does "spring" upon us - seemingly without notice!
One of the signs of Spring is new life. Almost everywhere you look, there is new life! Sit and watch the baby calves, lambs and colts frolic across the soft green pastures. Picture the baby robins clustered in their nests with their mouths open wide, squawking and squeaking for their breakfast, lunch and dinner. Take a ride through the countryside and watch the fields and meadows for the new wildlife making its way into the open. Trek down to the pond and check out the baby ducks and geese swimming in a line behind their mamas.
Not only does spring produce many new baby animals, but new vegetation as well. The leaves that have died off during the cold fall and winter months are slowly sprouting from the buds on the trees and shrubs. It seems like magic the way the grass is changing its color from the coarse, ugly brown of winter to the soft, green carpets of spring. The early spring flowers - daffodils, tulips and crocus, to name a few - are beginning to poke their heads up out of the ground and turn their faces to the warm Spring sunshine.
Finally, there is nothing like a good breath of fresh, spring air! The perfumes of spring are everywhere; the flowers, the new leaves, the green grass. The rain has a different scent to it. The warm breezes of the new season carry these wonderful fragrances to our senses. When you drive by the farms out in the country and wrinkle your nose at the "fresh" smell coming from the fields, remember that, too, is a sign of spring!
Now, get out of the house and let Spring seep into your senses! Open your eyes and look around you at the new life. Take a deep breath and smell the fresh air. Listen to the sounds of the birds singing in the trees. Reach down and feel the soft grass or pick a bouquet of flowers for a loved one. Stick out your tongue to catch and taste a few raindrops. You can use every one of your senses to experience this wonderful season called Spring!
