Jerusalem should not be split between the Israelis and Palestinians. There is one simple reason for this - God gave all that land to Abraham. It does not belong to any other country, people or religion. Every grain of sand that Israel gives away is a slap in the face of God.
God gave that land to Abraham and all his descendants. It is just that simple. God has stood by Israel for centuries, sometimes just for "His namesake" as it says in the Bible. God could have cut them loose, but He has stood by them because of a promise He made so long ago. The Bible says that "God is not a man that He should lie." God didn't lie to Abraham and, despite all the craziness in that region, Israel has been able to stay there and prosper.
Not only did God promise that region to Israel, He also promised incomprehensible wealth. Imagine that. Centuries after that promise, oil is found in the area. Not just oil, huge amounts of oil. God knew what He was doing. That didn't happen by accident or by chance. It was all part of God's will for His chosen people. All of that should belong to Israel.
God said that Israel was a "stiff-necked people" on many occasions. Not much has changed. Despite that fact and several other reasons, they still hold on to the land God promised them. And, now, once again, they decide to give it away. Just a little piece at a time, an acre here, a mile over there. Why do they do this? Most would hold on tight to a gift given to them by God. Oh, but not the Israelis. That just give it away and then complain because they don't have it. It is their land and they should do what they want with it. When they do what they want to with it, they shouldn't whine about it later.
As with other gifts that God gives, we have to accept them. His only purpose is to love us. Part of loving us is protecting us and blessing us. God has gone above and beyond when it comes to protecting Israel. He has also done the same when it comes to blessing His chosen people. My grandmother would always say, "You've got the world by the tail and a downhill run" when something good happened. This so applies to Israel. God handed this region and all it's riches to these people and they seem oblivious to it.
When we accept gifts from God, we also accept the responsibility for them. God, in His infinite wisdom, helps us be responsible for them. Despite Israel's irresponsibility concerning their land, God stands by them. He continues to let that little country live and prosper, surrounded by others who hate them and want them dead. I can almost understand why they are hated. They have been given a gift like no other gift ever. Jealousy is breeds hatred. They do nothing to protect their gift. Laziness is not a quality that usually brings friends together.
Few are as pro-Israel as I am. It is just annoying to see them treat God and His gift the way they do. There is a part of me that wants to shout, "You stiff-necked people, you don't deserve to be God's chosen people because you refuse to hold on to what God has given you!" I can't do that. Through Jesus Christ, I am one of God's chosen people. I, too, have given back gifts and tried to keep God from keeping His promises to me. I am just as stiff-necked as Israel is.
Jerusalem should not be split between the Israelis and Palestinians. It is theirs and it should stay theirs. God didn't give it to them to give away. He gave it to them to show how much He loves them. He gave it to them so they could be the light of the world, to share God with others. Funny thing is, that region and it's riches are like a boomerang. It keeps coming back to them. They are a stiff-necked people. They are going to do what they are going to do. Of course, God is going to do what God is going to do. He will continue to give Israel that land. After all, He did make promise.
