Political parties were created because people disagreed about certain political subjects. The question is, who said this was a bad thing? George Washington warned this country against becoming divided and we did exactly that. He said that disagreement about certain issues is what helps this country achieve the best answer. When two separate ideas are forced to compromise, a decision that is mutually acceptable would be reached and is often the best decision that could have been reached. We have now separated ourselves into separate parties. We have created terrible tension in politics and divided this country permanently. There is no more compromise or agreement, there is only arguments ending with one party coming on top.
People base their voting decisions on the parties ideas and not on the actual candidate's ability to succeed. Republicans vote Republican and democrats vote democrat, there is not an in between, no gray area. When that certain party wins the election, their candidate is expected to run the country according to his or her parties ideas. This is where the country falls into some trouble because every situation needs a different approach and being supply side or laissez faire is not always the answer, but a republican is expected to implement these ideas just for the sole reason that he or she is considered a republican.
If the President was not bounded by his or her political party he would be able to make a lot more accurate decision about how to approach this certain situation. He or she would not have to worry about their parties ideas, would be able to consult with people who did not share their views, and adopt some of their ideas if it suited this situation. He or she would not have to be in constant argument with the opposite party and be constantly struggling for control. They could sit down and agree on a solution instead of both trying to pass different bills only to find out that the other party that dominated congress denied this bill. Then they get revenge by vetoing the other parties bill and after months we find ourselves in the same position we were in to start with.
This constant struggle for power has drastically hurt our countries welfare and will continue to hurt us. We have become a divided country and will continue to be divided until we realize the extreme negative effect it is having on everything. If we got away from the black and white and could once in awhile find that gray, we would reach many more decisions that would benefit our country. If we just took the first president of the United States of America's advice and avoided this separation into different political parties, we could satisfy the rights and lefts of society. We would finally be united as one.
