Poetry: Snapshots

by Jen Hudson

With the speed of a shutter
The click of a mouse
The carousel of our story
Publicly transmitted through their eyes
But what I see is this. . .
A red-eyed vision, washed out by a flash of light
Who is everything I could ever want
And nothing I would have imagined
Simply this
A man who has made my life more than
A series of photos
And albums
The snapshots in my mind tell me
That more than everything I would have imagined
And more than I could ever want
The shutter clicks
Adding one more picture to our life story
Hand and hand on a beach
Exchanging symbols of our life forever
Smiling as I become
Your partner
More than just a photograph
An etching of us
