Challenges to maintaining a healthy immune system

Building Your Immune System the Natural Way. Having a healthy immune system is very important for people today, as getting sick means not just being uncomfortable and inconvenienced; it can also mean missing work, passing the sickness on to others, and doctor's visits and medicines that put quite a dent in the budget. The body is built in such a way that it has natural defenses against sicknesses as part of the immune system but strengthening and protecting this system is important, as is giving it all the help we can.

Some people just have a naturally strong immune system; maybe you know someone that never seems to get sick or that when he or she is sick they get over it quite quickly. It's true that genetics can play a large part in how well all of our bodily systems work, but even for those who seem to have some weakness in this area there is much one can do to bolster up their immune system.

It's interesting how eating right has so much to do with our health overall, and this is true with our immune system as well, after all you are what you eat. Without the necessary amino acids and vitamins the body needs, you can be more prone to sicknesses. Also, filling up on foods that are of poor nutritional quality will overload your system by making it work harder to digest these foods when it could instead be building itself up. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables is probably the most important thing you can do help your body. Those who fail to do so are usually in very poor health - think of those that live in countries or areas of the world where they have no fresh food. Usually they suffer from many diseases that affect their skin, teeth, bones, and health overall. In times past, persons who didn't get enough vitamin C were more likely to get scurvy; when these were given oranges or limes to eat every day the cases of scurvy virtually disappeared. If you just cannot make changes to your diet, consider taking a multivitamin every single day, but do what you can to cut out fast foods, fried foods, prepackaged foods, and sugary foods and substitute these with fruit, leafy green vegetables, and foods with whole grains all of which are beneficial to your body.

The body also needs adequate rest to recharge its own batteries and strengthen itself. Sleep is the time when the body heals and repairs itself. If you don't get enough sleep your body will be weaker and your immune system will be compromised. So in order to be the healthiest you can be, it's important to eat
