My Favorite Food
I arrived home from work it had been a long exhausting day and decided I was too tired to fix my supper. I had been on this diet forever and I decided it was time for me to treat myself. I gathered together all the coupons I could find and picked out the one that would save me the most money, or so I thought.
"Hello is this Pizza On-the-Run?" I asked. You would think they could answer the phone with the name of the business. "Yea, lady what can I do for you," was the curt reply. I'm thinking, "He must be having a bad day."
"I've got a coupon and I'd like to get an extra cheese and maybe another topping," I said. I gave my address, phone number, and sat down getting ready to feast on one of my favorite foods. An hour passed. I thought to myself, usually getting a pizza does not take this long. It was now 6:30. I made my call at 5.p.m. It's a 10-minute drive maybe I should pick it up myself.
I called the pizza shop. "Where's my pizza?" I demanded in my not-so-calm voice. I was told by the person answering the phone, "We do not service your area we called it over to our other store."
"Great," I said irritated, "that explains it!"
I patiently sat down to wait for that knock on the door. Got my money out and counted it with a good tip included. I could almost taste the double cheese melting in my mouth. More time passed. It was now 8:15 p.m. I was beginning to really get annoyed.
I called the first store and asked again, "Where's my pizza?" I was told that the other store was handling the order. Did they offer to call over to find out what was going on? Of course not!
"Give me the phone number of that store please and I'll call myself," I said. The manager of the second pizza shop answered, "We are not aware you ordered a pizza."
While I was calling, the first pizza shop On-the Run called the second pizza shop while I was still on the phone. Come to find out they didn't call over my original order at all. By now it was 9 p.m. my supper time had come and gone.
I was now very upset. After all these months of dieting I was going to treat myself to pizza which always made me feel good. Now it was so late I could not enjoy it. The second store promised to have the pizza ready for me as soon as possible and said they would deliver it, but they were not sure where my apartment building was located. "Okay, that's it, get it ready I'm coming over!"
"I know you're very upset and we'll take a couple dollars off your pizza," the manager suggested in an anxious tone.
"Are you kidding me?" I yelled in the phone, "I should get it for nothing at this point. Do you realize its 9 o'clock?" This time I used my outside voice. I arrived at the store with a frown on my face. I was handed a pizza.
"This one is cold," I said. "Has it been sitting around for awhile?" I demanded to know. "Maybe you lost my original pizza and found this one sitting in the back room!" I arrived home with a bad taste in my mouth and ate my cold pizza, vowing never again to order such a difficult item!
