The Big Bang Theory is a new comedy on CBS. It is a hilarious show about two scientists who share an apartment, their beautiful female neighbor, and their two geeky friends.
Leonard and Sheldon are roommates. They are both physicists and work at the university. While Leonard could be called a "normal" geeky scientist, Sheldon is neurotic, annoying and socially inept.
Their friends are Wolowitz and Koothrappali. These two are also employed at the university and are the complete opposite of each other when it comes to women. Wolowitz thinks he is a stud while Koothrappali is so shy around women that he can't even talk to them unless he is intoxicated.
Penny provides the non-geek perspective. She lives across the hall from Leonard and Sheldon. She is a beautiful, blond woman who works as a waitress at the Cheesecake Factory. Leonard is attracted to her and hopes to develop a relationship with her at some point.
The show has had twelve episodes so far and each one has made me laugh. As a comic book reading geek who is married to a scientist, I can really relate to the show. While the science jokes may be over my head, the comic book/superhero jokes make my sides split. The genius behind this show is that you don't have to feel bad about not getting some of the jokes. There are enough jokes that you are sure to find one that you like and appreciate.
The show reaches out to all the geeks out there. Whether you are into science, comic books or role-playing games, this show has jokes and situations that you can relate to. It is not just for geeks, however. Penny provides a perspective that allows non-geeks to relate as well. If you didn't understand what Sheldon said to Penny it doesn't matter because Penny didn't either. Penny allows non-geeks and non-scientists to relate too as she gets frustrated with Sheldon or Wolowitz.
The Big Bang Theory airs on Monday nights on CBS. It stars John Galecki as Leonard, Jim Parsons as Sheldon, Kaley Cuoco as Penny, Simon Helberg as Wolowitz and Kunal Nayyar as Koothrappali. It is well worth watching. If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend that you give it a try.
