Poetry: Mixed emotions

by Jodi Wright

Created on: April 15, 2008

How Am I Feeling?

Verbose today,
quite close to witty,
though jittery, restless,
really rambling
relentlessly. I interrupt,
again, apologize extensively,
so sorry, not intended.
Backing out
of that conversing group
damning thoughts

Depressed today,
quite close to desperate,
though stumbling, grasping,
really reaching out
recklessly. I disconnect
in fear, cling on compulsively,
unfit to formulate
cohesive, connected
complete thoughts

Upbeat today,
quite close to better,
though negative inner,
really unwelcome
intrusions. I reproach
myself, yet still endorse effort,
scrambling to insert
confident, positive
prepared thoughts

Passive today
intensely inside
though warily aware
really resistant
reactive. I ruminate at length
avoiding interaction.
Uh-huh, yeah, no problem,
survive, watching time
unwinding, hanging on -
distrustful thoughts.

Unstable, intelligent,
antisocial, articulate,
defensive, affectionate,
contradictory self.
