Of course the government should keep their damn dirty paws off of the internet. It is the WORLD WIDE web anyway. Why should the United States government tax any of it? Who gives them the right to start taxing anyone with the internet? Is this supposed to pull the United States out of its current recession?

I believe that the internet is the last true place of freedom. It is the one place where you can really say what you want and do almost anything you want. In fact, it is total freedom and the true essence of freedom. For some reason the government keeps wanting to stick its already too-big nose into it and monitor it or find some way to make money off of it. Look, very few people are making money off of the internet and they just need to keep out of it.

The internet has managed to run all on its own quite fine. It manages to self-regulate just fine. The websites that deserve to die, seem to and the ones that are popular manage to succeed. It is a great bastion of advertising and free-market. The internet is a symbol of freedom in other countries where they don't have as much freedom elsewhere. The government already taxes companies like Google and Microsoft and other companies that are based in the United States and have succeeded.

The internet should not be monitored. Music should not be censored. Books should no tbe censored. Television shows should not be monitored. True freedom means freedom even for the shows and the things you don't want to hear or see or read. Freedom for all means freedom even for the worst. Parents need to monitor their own children. They need to stop wanting everyone else to take care of their kids and just get off their asses, check their kid's computer and other forms of media. Stop the idea of the "it takes a village" crap and start taking some kind of responsibility for your own kids and family and stop expecting everyone else to do your job for you.

I hate it when the government wants to monitor everything and regulate everything. It leads to nothing but trouble, problems and people abandoning what is a good thing. I make much of my living off of the internet and my writing, and I don't want the government butting its nose into anything that may affect me. I already have to fork over too much of my salary to fund a stupid war and other stupid programs, why should my internet go to fund anything.

Stay out of it. Leave it alone. You'll just manage to completely screw it up like everything else.
