Here we are living in a free society, free to choose, unless of course that is our preference to have analog T.V. rather than digital. Our government is forcing all of America to switch to digital. I am no conspiracy theorist but doesn't this force to change not look a little like some way for our government to keep greater tabs on us somehow? Well I have to say that somewhere in the back of my mind it does look that way. With all of that aside why don't we look at what it means in basic terms.
Recently, I was in a government office and I saw a memo about the change from analog to digital T.V. February 17, 2009. It went on to state that around 94,000,000 households still run on an analog signal on at least one T.V. in the household. Our ever so kind government is allowing those people to apply for up to two coupons per household ($40 coupons) for the cost of converter boxes. The boxes will cost anywhere between $40 to $70 dollars each. Now, this seems like such a kind gesture but if you look at it more closely it actually isn't that great of a thing. First of all they only have approximately 24,000,000 coupons leaving quite a few people out of luck.
Another question that comes up for me is what if you have other people living in your home because they rent from you, how are they supposed to take advantage of the coupon deal? The answer is that they won't be able to do so. We also have the issue of setting this up. That is no problem for most people but what about those unfamiliar with electronics or some of the elderly. Now, we are left with a bunch of people that cannot get coupons and others who cannot afford a converter or digital service and last but not least we have people that have no idea how to set up the equipment.
Our government may have found a way to perhaps spy on all Americans with this forced technology, who's to say? Definitely though our government has found a way to make a buck off all Americans and so will a whole bunch of other people and businesses. This must be part of the economic stimulus package that they haven't admitted to. One can trust this for sure, the government will profit hand over fist as we are forced to go digital. The sale of analog airwaves and some hands profit of converter box sales.
