NO! Just this title has me so mad. Some victims of rape are not irresponsible people.
Imagine getting a ride from someone you know, the next thing you are being thrown in the back of his car with your clothes all bunched up and panties down and his are too and he's doing it to you. How were you irresponsible? Are women to trust no one?
Imagine being held down screaming while raped from behind by an ex boyfriend, while you are kicking and screaming? Are we not allowed to have an ex boyfriend come by?
Imagine a husband dragging his wife down the hall after she gave birth to a child less than a week before, she's yelling "no don't" but he doesn't listen, he slams the door shut and throws her half on and half off the bed. Where is she irresponsible?
Sure, we can fight, but sometimes being thrown and jumped on you are unable to fight. When held down and kicking and it doesn't stop where is that irresponsible? And being dragged and thrown down, where is that irresponsible?
Why is it that the victim is always to blame? Why can't we focus on the rapist who is so mean and angry and wants to exert power over somebody that he'd go to any extreme to do so. Why can't he be the one we blame?
Women now walk in groups at night so we are not alone, we watch closer what we wear, and if we do want to dress sexy to make us feel good, where is that wrong? Why can't a guy just keep his hands and thoughts out of the gutter.
I am so tired of seeing where women are blamed for the evil that is bestowed upon them. Why is that men seem to get preferential treatment? The double standard is still in affect and what is worse it is now at the expense of women who are raped. Not only here in America, but much worse for countries who are of Muslim religion because the woman then brought dishonor to the family and usually she is killed for it, but you never hear about the rapist being killed. Is she responsible for the birth into a country that believes in Muslim religion and practices, I don't think so.
"NO", means "NO", even if she is drunk it means no, even if she has on sexy clothes, no means no, even if you date her or are married to her, no means no. There is so much garbage taught to men that "no" really means "yes" and she only says it so she won't look bad by saying "yes", or she really wants it but is afraid to admit that you force and push yourself on someone for your own ego gratification and dominance of another person and that is sick. Then to feel that the rape victim is irresponsible, makes no logical sense to me. Nor does blaming the woman because the man felt he could not control himself during foreplay and had to go all the way, that is his fault, his lack of character not a woman who keeps saying no.
There are times when women get stranded at night, they may have to walk home alone late at night, but that does not mean she is asking for it.
I know the helpless, are easy prey, victims of rape who are emotionally retarded, or have physical disabilities where they are being taken care of and someone in a supervised setting gets raped, are they irresponsible? How so?
Talk to a rape victim, see what they went through, then tell me why you think she/he is irresponsible.
