Joining the ranks of Vincent Price (1964's The Last Man on Earth) and Charleton Heston (1971's Omega Man), Will Smith is the star of 'I Am Legend,' the film adaptation of the Richard Matheson novel of the same name. Will Smith stars as virologist Robert Neville and Neville appears to be the only surviving human in not just New York City but possibly in all the world. But being the only surviving human and being alone are two different things. First, there is an abundance of animals including Sam, Neville's German Shepherd. Secondly, is the mutant humans who roam the streets at night looking for food. Eventually, Neville comes across another survivor, Anna (Alice Braga) and her son, which suggests that there maybe more survivors out there. In the meantime, Neville daydreams of his family (you can make assumptions about what happens to them but this is never confirmed) right before the quarantine in New York City and frantically searches for a cure to save what is left of humanity from the deadly virus.

The negatives of this movie were few. To start, my biggest problem with the film was the CGI created mutated humans. It was so obvious they were computer generated I had a hard time taking them seriously as the enemy of Will Smith's character. These mutants would look great on my Xbox 360 but in a high budget Hollywood film featuring one of it's leading men? C'mon. Next, the ending left me very unsatisfied. Without giving it away...we will just leave it at the ending left a lot to be desired.

In ending, I Am Legend was a good but not great movie. Hardly 'mind-blowing'but all-in-all a decent movie. I was really into it at the beginning but as it wore on I began to enjoy it less and less mostly due in part to the poor effort of the CGI mutated humans. Either way, I Am Legend is definitely worth a look at either on Pay-Per-View or renting at your local Blockbuster or other rental outlet.
