Monthly Short Story Contests

This group is open to anyone who is interested in participating in monthly short story contests. These contests have no monetary reward, but 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries will be posted on the Tantalizing Tales Zone.

Separate threads will be created for each month's contest, where writers will enter the URL of their newly published short story which appears on the Helium website.

Voting will be accomplished in the same threads once the submission period is over, and winners will be announced both on these threads, and in the aforementioned zone.

Good natured comments are welcome, but no critiquing of submissions is allowed. Other threads will be established where writers may request a critique. All who visit are encouraged to give their opinion and to ask for, or receive a critique.

Please join me and other writers as we read each other's stories, and vote for the best. Be assured that your stories will be read and appreciated. Learn what techniques and styles work best to make your stories more intriguing and effective. Discover what grabs the reader's attention, and showcase your writing.

Contest nuts and bolts

To enter each monthly contest, please enter the URL of your newly published short story in the appropriate thread that will be created just prior to the beginning of the contest. Contest submission periods will be defined in each new thread, and the theme of each contest will be announced. If possible, new titles will be created that pertain to the current contest and writers will be encouraged to write to those new titles. No previously published stories will be accepted, only those that were newly written and published on Helium, then immediately linked on the appropriate thread. Voting will be allowed for participants only, and will immediately follow the end of the submission period, and will continue for approximately one week. Winners will be announced after the end of the voting period. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries will be linked on the Tantalizing Tales zone, with the 1st place story getting the coveted featured story spot. Each participant gets two votes, and may not vote for their own story. 1st place is 5 points, 2nd place is 3 points. In the case of a tie, both tied entries will receive equal exposure on the Tantalizing Tales zone. No critiquing is allowed in the contest threads, but comments of a non-critical nature are welcome.
