AuthorMore than a Simple Language Barrier

I was going to pick up my neice at school one day last year, and came across a truck stopped in the road. You must understand I'm talking about HWY 151, which is one of the most busy and dangerous highways in the US.

There was a brown-skinned woman standing out in the middle of the road yelling at cars passing by, in Spanish. I pulled to the shoulder, thinking her truck was broke, only to find out she was asking directions to Dalton, and had just parked her truck in the middle of the road.

This moron not only endangered herself, but it's a miracle that nobody plowed into that vehicle causing injury or death to innocents. The whole situation could have been avoided if she could have only read the road sign a mile down the road that said in plain English "Dalton, 15 Miles" with a big arrow pointing the way.

More than a barrier..

This is an excellent point.  If they plan to drive in the States, they should speak enough english to read traffic signs and know the traffic laws.  It only makes sense.  There are international DLs available but I am not clear, at the moment what the requirements are to attain one.  You would think...

Anyway, my desire to legislate English as the National language is so that all citizens can communicate, especially in the workplace and that the workplace is open to all applicants.  I am livid about what it costs for us to print everything in two languages and restructure the school system to accomodate non-english speaking immigrants, illegal or otherwise.  It's freaking expensive!

Whoa... we all need to implement that one.  I hope it's catching!

Going to cook dinner before I'm stuck with a bunch of starved corpses!  :)
