Not really a teacher but I do school programs and help set up a private school to ensure smaller classes.  I also raised two children, Jessica (18) starting Oxford this Fall to study medicine and Patrick (16) current studying Physics at Clemson.  Will be curious to see what this group does.

Try to do several things and see what works.  One is getting retired people involved in the schools by coming in and talking about work and what they did (Doctors talking about poisons and cases, Film producer on computer graphics, a chinese lady teaching mandarin).  Also getting them to work with the students on various projects rather than just as a guest speaker.  Some were excellent and some not as well, but provided valuable experiences for the children.  It gave the older people something to do and pass on and made the students feel they were important to strangers.  We also built "lungs" using bottles and balloons, and do lots of field trips.  Education in many places is becoming sterile and the wonder being lost by excessive rules, students get bored and cause troubles.  Try writing a riddle, translate to a foriegn language, convert that to Morse Code and then give to the pupils.  Give bonus points to those that solve the challenge, I demonstrated DNA doing that, it is the riddle of life in a foriegn language with a code.  It works!

What wonderful experiences for the children.  I like the idea of the riddle translated into a foreign language, then put into Morse Code. Do you focus on certain ages or reach out to all levels of students?

My stuff is just extrra and I do the programs for all age levels from Preschool up to High School.  The translation/riddles were usually 9 to 11 years old learning about DNA.  It makes they excited to learn about the riddle of life.

James, I taught high scnool for over 20 years in Jamaica and it has been very rewarding. Challenging but rewarding- it's so great to meet students who I have taught and they tell me what they are doing. This never ceases to warm my heart.

I do find it fun and it makes me feel good when students or parents come to remember you several years later and say "I did .... with you and it was great".  It makes the troubles worth while!

It's a great feeling. I love teaching and despite the challenges I am always inspired to teach. I now teach adults in masters program.
