AuthorThe Castle Coffee House and Pub, rest for the weary traveler

Posted on Aug 03, 10 at 12:57 AM

Welcome, dear Friends.

Take care not to step off the drawbridge, as the moat is filled with monsters. Don't mind the enormous, vaulted foyer. Follow me to a warm, comfortable place filled with comfy chairs, fine tapestries, a cozy fire, good food and fine drinks potable and otherwise.

This is our Castle Coffee House and Pub, protected from the bitter wind and dangerous strangers by moat, drawbridge, towers, walls, and the power of a kingdom ruled by friendship and respect.

We have Rules here, and they are most easy to accommodate:

  1. Evil, hate-filled banter will not be tolerated. Take that to the Other Thread!
  2. You must bring a Dish to Pass. Please describe it most deliciously.
  3. You must also bring a Drink to Share. Leave it on the polished walnut bartop, over there by the shining suit of armor.
  4. You must also entertain us with stories of wit and wisdom. These may be words or links or photographs, as you see fit. Blatant self-promotion is most welcome.

That's about it. Please do sit down, make yourself comfortable, and partake in the food and drink as you find it.

A toast to you all!

On this fine evening, after a most welcome rain, I've brought hot coffee (of course), and a decadent strudel. I might even leave you a piece or two.

I've lit the fire, just for atmosphere, and have brought a book to read in case I shall be enjoying this lovely room alone tonight. The book is The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud, by Ben Sherwood; it was highly recommended to me by my wife, and I've only just begun reading it.

On the magic window, there in the corner, I'm watching some questionable entertainment titled "Last Comic Standing." Forsooth, there appears to be little "comedy" involved, and much posturing of the jesters for something called "votes." Interesting? Perhaps.

Jimmy, you know I don't like coffee, so, I've brought my very own home-brewed mint tea, freshly made using spearmint that grows quite obligingly in the lawn. Yes, in the lawn! It’s the only place I can actually control it....somewhat anyway.

You can keep your strudel, too. I’ve got some lovely crumb topped blueberry muffins to share. Yes, made with the very berries I picked with Tommy in Promised Land State Park, just a hop, skip and a jump from home.

If you will recall, Jim, I got the recipe from Violet...or did she get it from me? Not too clear on that. Victor loves them, in any case. Oh, but you never did meet Victor, did you? He bares a striking resemblance to a very good friend of mine, not so much physically as emotionally, but there you go. You can only see for yourself when you finish your lovely Lin’s wonderful choice for literature.

I pick the over-stuffed and slightly rumpled looking chair by the fire. I feel the autumn chill coming already and I need to warm my toes. I may be a bit melancholy because of it. Yes, I know summer’s still going strong but, autumn lurks, like a sleeping dragon ready to slither into the castle and... .oh! Just gave myself the chills! Better stop that. Oh, yesm that reminds me. I must ask MJ for a suitable crochet pattern for a shawl.

I’ve brought flowers from the castle gardens to help cheer things up.

Sir Raymond, keeps them so well tended, don't you think?

What a fine coffe house this is, my friends!     Beautiful, peaceful decor,   this looks like a  wonderful place to rest the mind and salve the weary soul.  Maybe I'll just move in .......The fire crackling away is making me sleepy already, after being outside all day.   I spent most of the day by myself, since  my noble companion was off to  shores distant,  --so I sat in the shade,  away from all screens,  scribbling away with  pencil and a notebook, a rare opportunity indeed for a tired writer!

I  have brought  ice cream and sweet raspberries freshly picked today, -- and a few bottles of raspberry wine,  great stuff !  Should you wish to chat,  awake me gently....lol

Raspberry wine wins with me over coffee (which I consider a food group in of itself).  I shall provide ..... well I'll have to think about it as it's been ages since I have prepared something not from a can or box ;)

Jim - Dangerous strangers? do they exist here in our cafe?

Oh, this is my kind of place!

Coffee, flowers, a good book, ice cream and raspberries -- and two fine friends for quiet company. Glory, warming herself by the fire and looking wistful; and Raymond, having chosen a too-comfy chair, snoozing with notebook clutched to his chest and a faint smile on his lips.

Through the open window I hear the raspy chatter of a pair of cicadas overpowering the rhythmic harmony of a few hundred crickets. Turning a page on Charlie St Cloud, I feel my eyes getting heavy and reach for my ice cream before it melts...

Good night, dear friends.

PS to Doreen -- I didn't see you over there, sorry! Told you my eyes were getting heavy, didn't I?   :-)

Wow, everyone is going to bed and the sun isn't down yet. I brought green tea and white chocolate, macadamia nut cookies. I love eating cookies when reading. I'll just prop my feet up on the tufted cushion and read awhile. The sunset is turning the sky pink and orange.

I often dreamed - while asleep not daydreamed - of living in a huge structure with too many large rooms and too many floors for me to keep up with. For some reason, this dream was recurring. I'd like to know how big this castle is and how many cats I am allowed.

On coffee drinking - I have one cup in the morning except during temporary switches from coffee to tea. Being a lifelong insomniac, one cup is all I can manage.

Whether drinking coffee or tea in the a.m., I usually drink decaffeinated herbal teas once or twice a day.

Burning fireplaces always seem to spur me to roast marshmallows. I like my marshmallows nearly burnt because if they are not burnt their flavor pretty much tastes like unroasted fluff - and with fluff I'd rather have peanut butter or yams.

As my contribution, therefore I bring herbal teas such as lemon, apple cinnamon, and peppermint. Periodically, I hope to sip a bit of Glory's spearmint.

Renee If I had but one cup of coffee daily someone would have to peel me off my keyboard.  A good start (really good start) is 3 / 20 ounce cups in the morning.  Changeover to diet coke around noon time (3-5 will do the trick), then coffee again by 4pm.  Then a glass of two of vino or Sapphire and Tonic followed by a 20 oz coffee and it's bedtime :)

And people wonder why I'm so productive (evil grinning)
