My answer is yes and no but I will be in the yes category. First off no he should not have held out, it doesn't matter how good you are, no rookie should ever hold out. You haven't proved anything to anyone, why should you ask for more money? Plus you are sending a message to everyone that you are above the team. It makes you look bad in front of your teamates, your coaches, management, and most importantly the fans, the fans are the engine that makes a franchise run, fans make your money. Now for the second part of the question, yes Jamarcus Russell will play in the NFL. If the Raiders play well this year Russell will likely not play at all, if they plunder, then Lane Kiffin will not hesitate to get Jamarcus on the field. I think that Russell could be a very good passer down the road, he certainly has the arm strength of an NFL quarterback, that much is obvious. What I think Oakland will do is use Culpepper as his mentor, Daunte could teach this kid a lot, then Lane Kiffin and Russell could both grow together and perhaps one day, bring the lombardi trophy back to the black hole. The ball is in Oaklands court, just what does Al Davis have in mind for this young man? He saw something ion Jamarcus Russell that I didn't. Russell had a decent college career and one good game in the sugar bowl against a limping Notre Dame defense, to be completely honest, I think that the best passer in the draft weas on the opposite sideline in that game.

NO!- He may not ever play!
Jamarcus is still holding out on a contract that is in his own fault. He has the perfect chance to come into a system and revive a struggling program. He has the best own in the business who loves minorities and will pay the kid the value he is worth. Jamarcus playing the villain and holding out only shows two things. He is looking at greed instead of playing football, and he was not ready to come out in the first place. Jamarcus will not be the rookie of the year so he doesn't deserve this large contract that he is searching for. Everyone thinks because Mario Williams was a blunder that they can get over on the NFL. Well in Jamarcus case you are not Reggie Bush or Vince Young. These two players settled their contract talks early and were in camp, and they both played in every preseason game. Reggie went and took the saints to the conference finals, while Young showed up the Heisman winner by winning the NFL rookie of the year. Jamarcus has not been training; he hasn't even made a contract offer that would help the Raiders understand where he is coming from. Russell has been partying like a rock star ever since he became the first pick in the draft of 2007.
Mr. Russell wasn't even the best QB at the columbines before the draft, and he won't be the best rookie QB. So why is he holding out for money that he doesn't deserve, and if he think he deserve money more than Reggie Bush for one outstanding College game compared to an outstanding College Career, then Russell will be the first ever first pick in the NFL draft to not play in the NFL. Russell this hold out is turning the heads in the African American community, and it showing us that football is about money instead of about playing the game. Larry Johnson came into the league as the best running back in his draft and yet he got a small contract. Larry fought with the coach about playing time and when he got that playing time Larry Johnson made history. Russell was not even the best in his class, and Russell only came out because the class was so weak. He shouldn't be holding out and if the hold out continues, Donte might win the hearts of Oakland. Even if Jamarcus comes to play he might be a value of trade rather than a starting QB.
I say whom ever is the Personal Relation specialist for Jamarcus Russell should be fired and the agent should quiet representing him because they are losing his value even before he ever takes a snap. Soon we will be saying remember that number one pick that never played a down in the NFL.
