Should US citizens be allowed to travel to Cuba? This question really caught my attention, because my question was more along the lines of, does Cuba really want US citizens to travel to their Country?
Has anyone out there really thought about it? We all agree that Cuba is not the most economically stable country, and that they do inherit many flaws from the past. However, one thing Cuba still has, and seems to proudly maintain is their ability to keep the Americans out without any major fuss.
Maybe Cuba secretly knows something that many other countries didn't know at the time when they accepted the American people in with open arms. Possibly Cuba is getting outside information telling them once they give in to the Super Power country, all their purity will be lost forever through the corruption of the almighty dollar. Only the people of Cuba will be able to answer that sensitive question!
As a Canadian citizen, I automatically have compassion for the American people. I understand that all the destinations they have access to is not enough, and I can see why they want to be able to visit a place they can't. That would really suck!
To make the American people possibly feel better, I visited Cuba on several occasions, and my wife and I even got married in Varadero. I have to tell you Cuba is not all what it's cracked up to be.
Yes, Cuba has spectacular sandy beaches that stretch out for miles, and yes, the local people are extremely friendly and respectful. The local talent is by far the best I have ever seen compared to many other destinations I have visited, and of course when you visit the capital city of Havana for the very first time it's like stepping back in time, that in my opinion is an extremely unique experience.
Wait a second! I was supposed to make the American feel better. OK, the food in Cuba is great, but not fantastic. Except, when the time they had the all you can eat lobster night at our resort that really rocked, and the lobster was delicious!
Alright, maybe I can't convince the American people that Cuba is not all that great, but remember, the US has many other great destinations to visit, including Hawaii, US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico to name only a few. So my comment to all US citizens so concerned that they can't enter Cuba on their free will, don't even worry about it, because Americans have so much more at your disposal.
Until the day comes when the American people can finally have the honor to visit Cuba without any restrictions, I feel it's my responsibility as a Canadian and friend to the American people to be representative to all of them, and keep on enjoying visiting Cuba.
In the meantime, I recommend that all US citizens should start contacting their local government to find find out who's still angry with Cuba, and see if they're willing to make peace on your behalf. Good luck!
