The succulence of the tender chicken breast, seasoned with rubbed sage and earthy rosemary, grilled to perfection, spreads like liquid velvet across your tongue. The swift crunch of cooled cucumbers, the sudden sweetness of fresh strawberries, the tangy blast of a cherry tomato as you bite down
This is the joy of health food! Gone are the days when rice cakes and wheat germ defined this much-maligned phrase. The body rejoices in nature's own bounty, and thrives on the crispness of fresh vegetables, the sweetness of fruits, the hardiness of whole grain bread, and yes, even the occasional grilled chicken breast.
Revel in romaine lettuce dressed in oil and vinegar, free of salt and preservatives. Sautee those sweet peppers in olive oil and drizzle them with dried thyme. Grill the zucchini and yellow neck squash, toss them with pasta and top it all with the tart juice of fresh lemon. The taste will delight you and your body will thank you.
Nutrition is not an ogre, a thief of culinary delights. It is not a tyrant, demanding abstinence from gastronomical pleasures. And taste is not the love slave of that treacherous trio, salt, sugar, and fat. Nutrition and taste are not enemies; they are the dynamic duo of good health, the super heroes of suppertime, the defenders of deliciousness.
Health food has shed its tie-dyed t-shirt and hand made sandals. It has become the haute cuisine, the latest fashions strutting down the supermarket runway. How is it that health food, its roots tracing back to communes and the summer of love, has transcended trendiness and risen to such heights in society?
One reason could be attributed to the recognition of foods in their more natural states as being viable cuisine by well-known chefs. Graham Kerr, known as the Galloping Gourmet, spent the first part of his cooking career saturating foods with fats. But after his wife Treena suffered a heart attack in 1986, the Galloping Gourmet reconfigured his recipes and created healthier, leaner meals. Today, Graham Kerr hosts a show called The Gathering Place. His website, www.grahamkerr.com, provides a description of the show, which says, in part, "With the help of our guests from the healthcare fields, we set out to learn about human nutrition. This shared knowledge is applied to the featured recipe of the show in preparing nutritionally rich foods for managing weight, preventing illness, and creating a happier lifestyle-all bursting with flavor."
Why this focus on flavor? Because if something doesn't taste good, it won't be eaten. And where's the nutrition in that?
The raw food movement, in which no food is cooked, is a rising trend. While its first devotion is to health, chef Roxanne Klein, in the Chicago suntimes.com article, "Raw Will Hot Trend Fly in Shivering Chicago?" describes the non-cooking style as follows, "Raw foodism is about discovering the inherent sensuousness of each ingredient and highlighting it in the final dish." This approach to healthy food is about exploring the essence of fresh produce, and teasing from it the very height of the taste sensations offered by natural foods.
Nutrition is inherent in fresh foods: the vitamins and minerals in fresh fruit and vegetables, the omega 3 fats in fish and nuts, the proteins and carbohydrates found in poultry and bread. Health food has grown up, and found its niche. It is flavorful, fashionable, and fine fare for us all.

Of course vitamins taste bad, have you ever taken a natural vitamin supplement? All natural veggies and not so plumpy free range chicken can taste ok too, just add some herbs or various peppers to that "not so good tasting health food" or whatever seasoning you like be it only all spice and there you go it tastes ok :).Nutrition and toxin free food is key to maximum health and not getting sick too often or sick for weeks on end when you do get sick, trust me!Let me elaborate more on the subjects...
All natural nutritional health food vs cheap economical health food or better tasting
-The truth on un-natural cheap "better tasting" "health food"
If you focus on nutrition you will realize certain things such as the natural factors for example, chicken will taste better and produce larger eggs and have more weight if the chicken had it's legs cut off and was pumped full of hormones but wont be healthier for you, this also goes for any type of bird meat.If a vegetable is grown for economical and profit purposes it will taste "better" and it will cost you less because this vegetable is 4-8 times less healthy for you and has less taste,if you don't like the taste of vegtables yes the less healthy vegetables will cost less and grown hydro indoors will taste better. In fact these are not even health foods...You do get your protein from those chickens but you also get equaly unhealthy toxins.
-The advantage of all natural health foods
If a certain meat is kosher than it is slaughtered properly,if it is "better tasting" and cheaper non kosher meat then you can bet it was shot in the head with a bolt which causes an addrenaline rush which stays in the blood in the meat and very toxic. Also you want to purchase free range chicken eggs and chicken kosher meat. You do not have to be jewish to eat kosher food, just sane!We live in an insane world where nobody knows right from wrong when eating food because we are all deceived on by advertises and diet plans promoting certain foods and miss the important number one factor,NATURAL!Ladie s and gentlemen just because a chemical is not a drug and does not drug you doesn't mean it does not kill brain cells or is bad for you,if only you knew!So let me tell you what these better tasting "health foods" do to you...
Genetic mutation?...
Scary and scientific sounding, well what do you think female hormones in the chicken your son and daughter eat are doing to them? What about the female plant hormones in our fruits and veggies?I am not sure about the veggies but I do know for a fact that girls are developping at an earlier age,the legal age of consent dropped down to 14 in Canada, yes a 40 year old could legally date your daughter.Whether the age of consent is related to the female hormones in our food I do not know. Now I know that having bigger breasts younger might sound like a good thing to some,I consider it SICKENING,how do you think these girls are going to look when they are older? Is this going to cause their menopause at a younger age too? Well who knows now because that will take 30 years from now to find it out,of course the companies making money off these hormones know it is bad for people and should be illegal but guess what,by the time we find out these companies will have already cashed in on their project and you will never hear from them again because when their stocks all start to crash they will all sell them.
Sickening conclusions...
So please folks, just think twice before feeding that cheaper bigger plumpy chicken to your son and daughters because it might contain hormones that will be illegal to give to chickens in 10 years...Is it worth risking giving your family cancer?Or giving your daughter an early menopause and early sexual development and periods?Girls are getting their periods at a younger age yet everybody loves their KFC,and nobody ever comments on these sort of things, one has to wonder...
