Al Qaeda is in Iraq trying to kill any American they can find, mortar shells are lobbed into the Green Zone daily, sectarian violence can erupt at any time and spill over to harm United States civilians working there. Should we go further?

Diplomats need a safe haven to get any work done where they are unencumbered by the war as well as Iraqis that are working for the United States Government and must feel secure while they help stabilize their country.

The big "What if?" that is out there is; what if, there is chaos, where will there be a secure place to find shelter: in a Baghdad hotel, unlikely?

The mega US embassy will create an atmosphere of stability that the current Maliki Government is not providing, this embassy will send the message that the United States of America is there for the long term health and permanence of the elected Iraqi government. This is badly needed at a critical time for the newly formed country that is trying to find its sea legs in a ocean of chaotic events that are mostly being perpetuated by foreign fighters backed by Al Qaeda and Iran.

Senators, Congressman and high level cabinet officials should be protected from harm that could be used by the enemies of Iraq for publicity and propaganda.

The $600 million dollar compound is worth every cent if it protects the American contingency of diplomats that will be sent far into the future, who work hard to end the bloodshed in that war torn country.

This may turn out to be a bargain in terms of lives saved when we look at it from hind sight a decade from now.

I really don't see how, and for a vast number of reasons. Not the least of which being the war itself is unjustified. It in and of itself was a war of choice and one of unjustified pretence, in and of itself. Thus, the war not being a just cause all the more so, as it also was based on a fallacy in that there were, and were never has been any weapons of mass destruction, in the first place. More over the now given reason for the war in that it is to bring democratic rule to the nation of Iraq is a falsehood too. So with that in mind how can the construction or more accurately I guess the remodeling of a former Palace of Saddam be justified.

This brings me to the next reason why this is a bad idea to say the least. It is a palace of the former oppressor of the Iraqi people themselves. So with that in mind it being a sure sign of an oppressive regime. How can it be justified? How can it be justified even more over in light of the Bush administration's own remarks, as to the degree of this regimes oppression? have they themselves made quiet the big deal about Saddam's mistreatment of the people of Iraq. Doesnt it there for wreck of hypocrisy in that regard? Would it not stand as a monument of oppression now not only as a former palace of a dictator, but now as sign of oppression brought on by occupiers, namely the American forces?

Even still yet perhaps even more substantial is the tainted perception of America that the Bush administration has created by the use of a bullying voice of cowboy diplomacy. Are they, the administration that has left as a monument to what many make reference to as that of cowboy diplomacy? Dose it not there for leave perhaps the Iraqi people, or even those in general the international community in general a monument that leaves a mark of gluttonous flamboyance? A since of disrespect and a perception that we America, are little more than a power that is grandiose and unconcerned with the feelings of other nations. That we America will do as we damn will please, and that the rest of the world can go screw themselves. Is that a way to win hearts, to win minds? Will it not play right into the hands of the claims made buy the likes of Osama Bin Laden and others that hate us?

The last point I'd like to make in closing out this article is that it is a billion with a B, dollar project! Is it not a project that is being paid for with that of the American tax dollar? For what purpose? It seems to suggest the continued occupation. An occupation that the public doesn't want, and I'm sure that Iraqis don't want either. So where blowing yet another woad of cash to construct a majestic grand monument that is lord only knows built by whatever incompetent bunch of private screwball contractors. So that the rest of the world can look upon us not with reverence and respect ,but hate and discontention! The short answer to the question is a definitive NO! For all the for mentioned reasons and, maybe some i can't even think of right now. Since when did we become a overbearing bunch of tyrannical oppressors? Is this the way we wish the rest of the world to see us?
