Ask any dieter and they'll tell you how difficult it has been for them to shed those unwanted pounds. They've tried the pills, potions, fad diets and weight loss clinics. After spending a fortune they're no closer to reaching a thinner waistline. They conclude that losing weight is as difficult as quitting the smoking habit.
But is losing weight really as difficult as many believe it is?
The weight loss industry is a multi-billion dollar business. They realize that most people who get on programs will achieve some success only to gain back what they lost and more beside. Of course, that means a return to the old program and more money for the industry. Losing weight is a bit like gambling. Many people come back to those diets in the eternal hope that this time they'll hit the dieting jackpot.
The main problem why so many have difficulty in losing weight is because they rely exclusively on external measures to do the job. They depend on the doctor, their dietitian and the programs to shed the pounds. While there's nothing wrong with getting on a diet program, they are no substitutes for taking the incentive to actively lose weight and strive toward reaching a realistic weight loss goal. Smokers who rely on patches and gum can't expect to stop if they continue a pack-a-day habit.
Obesity starts with the diet, but the diet is not the only culprit that leads to weight gain. Many people focus too much on the diet without realizing that their lifestyle may negate any chance for success even if they eat healthy. But having to change the lifestyle is difficult as it has taken years to develop that lifestyle. Few people have the time or the discipline to change to a healthy lifestyle. They hope that a quick fix solution will be the answer to their weight problem. Unfortunately, quick fix solutions can only produce temporary results.
Eating fewer calories than what is expended does help toward some weight loss, but much has to do with the food consumed. Low calorie, high carbohydrate foods loaded with sugar, fat and salt promote weight gain. While this is generally understood, few people realize that what they take home, even if it says "diet" on the label, are not good for them. Today's fruits and vegetables come with a great deal of pesticides that can't be washed off. Many think they are eating healthy, but are only adding to the toxic overload in their bodies. And what the body can't get rid off it stores in added fat tissue.
While switching to a diet of high fiber low carbohydrate foods is difficult enough, many prefer to live an inactive lifestyle. Exercise is not a word many cherish. The 65% of Americas who are overweight or obese testify to this truth. Exercise burns calories. Exercise improves circulation, so the body can find those toxins and expel them through sweat, urine and the feces. Going for a twenty minute walk every day can help get a slimmer waistline.
As if diet and exercise weren't enough, there are those bad habits that add weight. Smoking is clearly one of those habits. Many of those cocktails and other spirits consumed daily have a great deal of calories. Many people drink far too much and it shows in that spare tire. Next to smoking and drinking comes the lack of sleep. Too many people don't get enough and those who don't get adequate sleep tend to add pounds. Then there are the breakfast skippers. Skipping the most important meal of the day leads to hunger and overeating the rest of the day. And what is eaten are those salty snacks and burgers at the fast food place.
Next to those habits comes stress. Many people are in a perpetual state of "fight or flight" and that disrupts the body's functioning. A high stressed lifestyle creates health problems like high blood pressure and obesity.
So that returns back to the question. Are there easy ways to lose weight?
Yes, but they're not found in diet pills and the weight loss clinic. Rather than depend on artificial methods, taking a natural approach is healthier than loading the body with even more chemicals, additives and preservatives. Natural methods work with the body rather than add the complications often associated with drugs.
Once a program is implemented and adhered to, weight loss becomes effortless. It just requires the discipline to take matters into your own hands, make a plan that addresses all the areas that create the problem. In the beginning a new lifestyle will take some getting used to, but once it becomes a habit, weight loss concerns will be a thing of the past.

How many people set weight loss goals and use weight loss programs year after year only to give up after disappointing setbacks or after they determine that they absolutely cannot stick to a program? The success of the multi-billion dollar weight loss market indicates that losing weight is not an easy task.
While it is possible for people to lose weight and even to attain individual goals, there is no “one size fits all” prescribed method for losing weight. Many weight loss methods use a combination of diet and exercise. There are those of you who have witnessed many high profile individuals - as well as family, friends and other individuals - lose weight after going on some type of weight loss regimen. But, how many of those individuals have you also witnessed give up or quit programs and quickly put the lost pounds back on? How many individuals have you known to try multiple weight loss regimens? Marketdata Enterprises published a study in 2007 entitled “The U.S. Weight Loss and Diet Control Market (9th edition)” in which they wrote about the estimated 72 million fickle dieters going from fad to fad diet.
This same report estimated the total weight loss market in 2006 to be worth $55 billion in 2006, projected to be $58.7 in 2007 with a $68.7 billion projection in 2010. Aside from the market of diet pills, DVD’s for quick weight loss, hormone diet products and other fad diets, there are successful weight loss programs like Jenny Craig , NutriSystem, Weightwatchers and others. Then, of course, we have so many products targeted to individuals who think they need to lose weight or who don’t want to pick up weight - products such as diet sodas, Slimfast, slimming teas, and so many more. As I stated previously, this weight loss market is a strong indicator that weight loss is not easy.
Individuals might join weight loss programs and begin to do the therapy prescribed by the programs, but there are so many factors that get in the way of their success. One such factor is that too many individuals expect the program to work wonders in a short time without them completely committing to a lifestyle change. They sometimes see a little weight loss after working out for a few weeks and then they start rewarding themselves with food. Or they might take a break from their diet so they can enjoy a vacation, an event or just because they want to eat some of the foods they love.
Another factor that makes weight loss difficult for individuals is when they hate to exercise. They order exercise or weight loss DVD’s thinking that the DVD's will make it easier for them to get up and move their body. But, here again, discipline and commitment are necessities and active participation is a must if they want to see results. There are individuals who join exercise classes, gyms, clubs and other organizations where they hope to get inspired by participating, but some of those who have paid membership fees seldom attend. All of the aforementioned individuals learn that the easy part of the exercise programs is accessing them. However, they find that working out is not an easy way to lose weight.
Some of the other factors that make it hard to lose weight are when individuals have tendencies to eat while under emotional duress. Too many individuals blame an incident, individual or mood when they decide to overindulge. It is just too difficult for them to comprehend that they have to take charge of their weight loss program.
No, there are absolutely no easy ways to lose weight! Each method demands discipline, commitment, and individual responsibility to remain actively engaged in the weight loss program. Though it is not easy, it is possible to lose weight as long as the person involved in the weight loss program understands that individual participation is absolutely the main ingredient that will determine the success of their weight loss program!
