Weight loss is the goal of most people today as the rate of obesity increases from children to adults we could all stand to lose a few pounds. Even our pets are obese and are becoming diabetic as a result of overfeeding and the ingredients in pet foods, such as fat and sugars.

Teas have been known to have many health benefits ranging from green teas that provide protection against cancer due to polyphenols that protect against free radical damage.

We are all searching for quick weight loss methods that do not starve us or make us uncomfortable while waiting to shed pounds of fat.

Benefits of Tea for Weight Loss:

Green tea reduces cholesterol, which is the amount of fat in your blood which clogs your arteries. The clearing of plugged arteries promotes good circulation which prevents heart attacks. Weight loss is more than possible by the fact that tea acts as a metabolic stimulant that helps to burn up calories.

Tea also increases digestion of fat especially Oolong teas. Basically, all teas are low calorie compared to soft drinks which contain high amounts of artificial sugars like aspartame. Green tea also increases energy levels, which in turn contribute to weight loss as it increases activity levels.

Green tea compared to coffee shows that green tea increases energy for 24 hours, while the caffeine in coffee only increases this level for the length of time you are taking it.

Green Tea Contributes to Weight Loss:

Another way that green tea contributes to weight loss is by halting the movement of glucose inside the fat cells. It is scientifically a fact that weight gain is stored as excess sugars and fat in the body. This tea actually raises the level of fat by oxidation through thermo genesis which is a process of burning fuels such as fat.

Types of Green Teas for Weight Loss:

Matcha Tea:

Matcha tea is a ceremonial tea that was once only given to Emperors and rulers but now is available to the public. Matcha tea is a fine emerald powered tea made from the youngest and most potent tea leaves. It therefore contains higher concentrations of catechins and high amounts of vitamins. Matcha is prepared using some warm water mixed with a bamboo whisk until dissolved in a bowl. Hot water would burn the powder therefore warm water is used just before the boiling point so as not to affect the quality of the tea. Later it is then combined with soy milk or other beverages to make a Green Tea Latte which are deliciously healthy.

It is known by tea experts of the world that the teas made from the first harvest are the most potent therefore any type of matcha tea made from the youngest tea leaves are infinitely more powerful in reducing fat in the body.

Powdered Sencha Tea:

Powdered sencha teas are easier to prepare that do not require the bamboo whisk and mixing requirements. This is due to the fact that the powdered sencha tea is ground down to a finer powder than matcha teas, which makes them dissolve better.

These powdered teas not only can help reduce body weight fat, but also have high energy benefits which assists in increasing energy to exercise.

Green teas are used in many different methods such as Green Tea Ice Cream, Green tea cookies, and green tea just to sip, relax and lose weight.

We are still looking for that magic weight loss bullet, aren't we?   Unfortunately there is no magic bullet for weight loss (or anything else for that matter).    If you desire to improve your health you must examine your lifestyle on a larger scale.  If only it were a simple matter of pouring that cup of tea.

Although there are many advertisements touting clinical studies that have claimed green tea will assist in weight loss the fact is that green tea is considered an herbal supplement.  Being a supplement means that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not evaluate the manufacturers claims about the product.  Furthermore, the clinical studies are generally commissioned by the makers of the product and not an imperial, third party.  It is not unheard of for supplements to have impurities or harmful metals in them. It is recommended that if one is to partake in herbal supplement use it should be from a reliable source.  How reliable can the source be if no governing body will support the source's claims?  Buyer beware.

Can tea be part of a healthy lifestyle change?   Maybe.  Some researchers believe drinking green tea may assist weight loss efforts by helping the body utilize blood sugar more effectively and suppressing appetite.  This could be a great tool in the weight loss arsenal but if more calories are taken in than burned up green tea will not bring about weight loss alone.

It may be possible for green tea to contribute to weight loss.  If you were to include up to 4-5 cups of green tea a day you may find that you have increased energy.  This boost in  metabolism can possibly assist weight loss efforts by burning about 70-80 extra calories by the end of the day.   That being said, you may do just as well increasing your water intake.

Although green tea is no magic bullet for weight loss, the actual recipe for success is simple and you have heard it before.  Eat less and move more.  Utilizing green tea as part of your weight loss plan may contribute to your success but you should not use green tea if you are sensitive to caffeine or have heart disease. Also, it should be noted that herbal supplements should be considered drugs and may interact with certain medications.  Patients should check with their doctor before adding any supplement to their diet.

If green tea replaces your double mocha latte you may be on to something.  One should ask how much of your success would be from drinking green tea and how much of it would be from replacing a higher calorie food source with a lower calorie alternative and caffeine? .
