Was LT the best choice for the Espy's man of the year award? Thats a very good question, In my humble opinion the answer is no. Yes LT is a model NFL player, his staunch and impeccable demeanor off the field is exemplary, and his on the field accomplishments speak for themselves.
But in the era of the modern player and all the off the field complications with the law, a player that merely keeps his nose and mouth out of the spotlight is simply not enuough. As far as the NFL is concerned they need more ambassadors and role model players to improve the image and perception of the NFL. With the high number of arrests and convictions in the NFL today from a marketing standpoint the NFL and its fans need to look towards the future, and to the players making a difference in their local communities and beyond. Jason Simmons, for example just recently made a 50,000.000$ donation to a single parent for a down payment on their family home, as part of him selling his number 30 to newly acquired Ahman Green. "It's just been on my mind to go out and help a family in need. I just understand that it's not all about money. In my life, I never want to get caught up in just money because it can ruin you" Now thats an NFL player who is taking the needs of others to heart, and thats what being the man of the year is all about.
Now that in no way means that LT does nothing for his community, he is involved in many different charitable organizations, and local causes. To appoint a man of Ladanian's stature as man of the year is taking the easy way out. I think the man of the year in the NFL is someone who doesn't have LAdanians notoriety and fame and contract but has if not the same, but more, compassion and respect for others as he does. Someone who can do more with less is truly my man of the year! So when choosing the Espy's man of the year in the NFL, maybe its in the best interests of the NFL and everyone involved to go with some lower key player to expand the brand and give positive attention to themselves and the league. Maybe these lesser famous player can be refernced in making a difference rather than making a mistake.
