The best way for the layman to acknowledge mind reading is to try it out with a lot of other people in a workshop and to experience it.
Now science can explain how it works to a degree but they are not yet completely clear on the topic. From a metaphysical point of view with a bit of scientific experimenting it is entirely possible to understand how it works. I would attempt to explain it as best I can in short simple terms.
One has to bring a few concepts together and combine them in order to get the big picture so let's look at the key concepts.
Biologists did experiments where they connect a device similar to a polygraph onto organic matter like eggs and plants. These test subjects would go into panic mode when any of their family were burnt or hurt no matter how far apart they were.
Mind is not localized in the body. In Quantum terms mind exists in an energy field or electro magnetic field in and around the body. On ECG scanners they can see the subject moving a muscle but they can never see anything while the subject is undecided whether to move or not and yet the subject is thinking about it.
Brain is a frequency creator and receiver that interacts with mind thus thinking happens in the field and brain transforms it into cognitive practical media.
In quantum reality it has been proven that space does not exist. Intuition happens instantaneously anywhere in the universe between any two points no matter how far apart.
Energy resonates and carries information along with it. A simple example is radio waves that bring audio to your radio.
Scalar energy is energy that resonates from the Quantum field and there are Tesla devices that can generate this energy. It is said to be healing energy. Bio scalar energy is the same energy but a person doing healing generates it.
An experiment has been done where two devices were set up on two different floors in a building that measures bio scalar energy. The people running the experiment called a healer in another town and asked him to send distant healing to someone in the building. At exactly the same time when the healer sent his healing the two measuring devices simultaneously registered a rise in bio scalar energy in the field locally.
Now one can send a thought into ones frequency energy field and it will transmit on a quantum level where time and space does not matter to the target of ones thinking. This happens all the time. Hence one thinks of a friend and the phone rings with that friend on the other end of the line. Now did that friend think of you when they called you, or did you motivate them to call you by thinking of them?
In a workshop we set up many mental sending and receiving experiments and our success rate amongst first time attendees averaged at about sixty percent. We can all do it and we are doing it, the more we become conscious of the fact the more we will be able to use it to our advantage.

Can a mind be read like a book or thoughts heard as if they had been spoken? There is no conclusive evidence to support such claims.
Scientific interest in mind reading and related phenomena began in the 19th century. Harvard University established The American Society for Psychical Research in 1885. Many eminent minds became involved in investigations of paranormal activity.
A common test in this period is the Extra Sensory Perception (ESP) card test. Using a deck of cards, consisting 25 cards in five sets of symbols, a sender would focus on a card drawn from the pack whilst a receiver would attempt to guess the card.
By 1917 Stanford University had completed four large studies with over 10,000 participants. Tests carried out under rigorously controlled experimental conditions. No evidence to support ESP was found.
Over the next 100 years there were other investigations of ESP both in the US and elsewhere. Some experiments appeared to show positive results. However, none were reliably recreated the gold standard for scientists. Often these results proved to be the product of fraud, statistical naivety or self-deception.
The situation is similar for investigations of other paranormal phenomena. Tightening controls on fraud, such as a bringing in an expert on deception, reduces positive results. Believers in the paranormal often claim that such controls, "destroy trust and trust seems necessary for psychic powers to work." Others see proof positive of fraud.
Between 1972 and 1994 there were a number of remote viewing experiments sponsored by the CIA. The final report noted, "in the case of remote viewing there was a large amount of irrelevant, erroneous information that was provided and there was little agreement observed among the reports of the remote viewers."
Despite 125 years of searching, scientists have failed to find conclusive evidence of mind reading. It is the stuff of fantasy literature, stage magicians and con artists. If any one claims they can read minds, watch your wallet.
