Almost nothing in this world is irrevocable. The idea of small terrorist groups dominating the world's population by threatening violence is as old as man. Each cell throughout history might have been effective for a limited period, but the life of a terrorist movement is finite. Sometimes the human with the energy lighting the fire for the movement passes and there is no successor. Other times the movement is overrun by a competitor or a splinter group forms. Sometimes the energy just passes from the cause or it becomes passe. You can find parallels in government, business and social organizations. No organization is sustainable for eternity without revolutionary change.
Transportatio n and hospitality systems and facilities today are huge and complex. The security features protecting travel and tourism are no longer minimal and naive. The planning needed for terrorism to be effective is cumbersome and detailed in comparison with past years. The odds of suffering a calamity from such criminal activity are much less than from other causes of disaster. Even though terrorists are gaining experience in these pursuits, the chore of financing, planning and acting in secrecy is enormous. This is especially so since the operatives need to be replaced for each occurrence.
I think travelers whether for business or pleasure/tourism see the reality of the situation and are not reluctant in moving about for long after an occurrence. It is harder to get on and off airplanes, but other parts of the infrastructure are not as noticeably restricted. Fortunately, memories are short and no one remembers that they are missing what they could have had before they couldn't have it even if they remember they could have had it. For sure, travelers are not going to fly into points of intense immediate danger from war for tourism, but calm soon returns in most areas and the norm of unfettered movement returns.

I think Muslim extremism has damaged tourism around the world. The extremists have a philosophy they want to share with the world. Part of that philosophy is: We are right, you are wrong. They do not believe in world domination by one country. The United States is their worse enemy because we are a country of progression. They believe when one country progresses, another country will experience regression.
There was a time when tourists had only the hotel accommodations to worry about. Nowadays, you worry about if you are going to make it home alive. Anything could happen at any time and you could be caught in the middle. You might want to ask yourself if the trip is really necessary. People will continue to travel until their safety becomes uninsured.
The world has certainly changed. There is no turning back time, what is done is done. It will just get worse until a new law and order will be pronounced. Everyone will be fighting for one thing or another. At that point, no one will be allowed outside their country. Governments all over the world will be fighting their own extremists. We can kiss the tourist trade good-by as we know it
There will be a lot of other extremists that will not be Muslims. Their reasons for fighting will be for more freedom. The more extremists you have, the less freedom for everyone. It will be like starting all over again. Only this time, the government will be telling you everything to do. Unless you get permission from the government, you will not have the freedom to leave your own country. This will be tourism in the future. The word tourism will be put in the archives for a history lesson on how the world once was.
People everywhere will scared to even leave their houses to go to the store or visit. Everyone will end up being a tourist in their own country. The theme will be : This is how things once was, this is how they are now. This will be the new tourist industry, run and controlled by the government. What will come out of this will be a new holiday called D.O.M.E.- Day Of Mourning Earth.
I can say that not only will the Muslim extremists damage the world of tourism, so will other groups that are not Muslims. These groups do not trust outsiders. They do not want people in their country who are not like them. They will do anything to preserve their way of thinking. They do not care about dying because death is a priviledge for those who serve.
