If it comes down to looks, Simon Cowell has it over Piers Morgan hands down! If it comes down to these two men's judging abilities, I would also have to vote for Simon. While in the beginning of American Idol's first six shows, Simon Cowell could be just as brutal to the contestants as Piers Morgan is to those who show their unique talents.

In the first six seasons of American Idol, Simon was consistently mean to those who tried out for the show but had very little talent if any. I think Simon's impatience and anger grew out of having to sit for days dealing with many untalented contestants. It seemed that the judges had to endure many more untalented contestants then there were talented, so it's understandable that after so many untalented contestants the judges would be a bit cranky.

Then, the seventh show begins and a newer, more patient Simon emerged. I was really shocked that Simon's usual meanness was toned down almost 100%. I found myself wondering if they cloned Simon and put the clone in his place! Simon's past comments could make a grown man cry, yet during the first few days of the seventh American Idol, Simon was literally kinder, smiled more, and was generally concerned about hurting a contestants feelings!

Now that I've seen the mean Simon and the newer, more kinder Simon, I wonder what happened to make this change in his personality and judging techniques. He didn't care in the past about hurting others feelings, so what changed him? A woman in his life? Could that be what has him showing a more kinder Simon or is it because he was tired of being hated by the general public?

While I have always enjoyed Simon's direct comments, he was always right on when it came to judging a singers ability to tackle the songs that American Idol expects its contestants to sing. While I didn't enjoy his making fun of people who were obviously mentally disabled, his way of seeking out talent seemed to work for the shows main purpose; getting more viewers to watch the show.

Now as I've seen the kinder, more gentler Simon, I wonder if this is going to be his start at being humanized. Will he still be be blunt and direct in his critiques or will this gentler side tame the crueler Simon we fell in love with? Well, I for one, am happy to see that Simon has toned down his meanness. A judge can be direct without being mean; maybe Simon has seen the light and decided that being hated as a judge isn't as fun as it used to be. Only the next four months will show American Idol viewers that Simon can be kind and gentle-hearted or maybe he'll revert back to the original, mean Simon.

Whether Simon is blunt and mean in his comments or if he continues to be kind and gentle, he outshines Piers in his ability to know what real talent is. That is one of the main reasons I enjoy Simon over Piers. Simon's ability to pick out talented contestants is by far more appreciable than Piers' comments. Simon's feedback to the contestants are meaningful if you can just get past the nasty, mean comments of the past. His feedback has been right on in most cases and his feedback should not be taken lightly by the contestant.

Piers

Attractive? Do you really mean, you know, wink wink ... attactive? How could I have hot flushes for Simple Simon or Pouting Piers until I'd seen them in full evening wear? However, if I had the opportunity to watch an entire competition where they flaunt their questionably male appeal, maybe I could decide which personality to vote Miss Congeniality.

Serious ly, I'd have thought by now the viewing public had tired of the so-called talent shows, with the unending line-up of grossly untalented contestants and the sneering, arrogant judges. Despite all the grossly-obscene money the judges are earning just by sitting on their fat butts and dissing the poor squawking schlubs in front of them, even they are getting bored with the tiresome routine.

Whenever those programs are on the tube, I actually can't wait for the next brain-damaging Head On, flatulance-decreasin g Beano or groin-enhancing Cialis commercials that mercifully take up at least 30 minutes of every primetime hour. Things actually get so bad that I often switch channels to Home Shopping, hoping I can bask in the glory of the surgically-frozen face of Joan Rivers as she peddles her cheap chochkas.

If you really force me to make a decision, I'll have to vote for Piers for the simple reason that, although he tries mightily, he can't quite be as obnoxious as Simon.
