Big Bang
Created on: July 25, 2007
The Big Bang' theory of cosmology is an attempt to understand the universe in scientific i.e. Rational terms. It is not the only theory of cosmology as it contends with the Steady State universe' and Cyclical universe' theories. In the steady state' theory the universe is now as it was and always will be and the theory is currently considered discredited because it does not account for observed conditions. The cyclical universe theory is a variant of the big bang' theory in that it contends the universe is continually expanding and contracting. It shares the Big Bang explosion of the mono-block of all matter that starts the outwards expansion. The expansion continues until it reaches a stead where gravitational effects overcome the pressures fueling the expansion, at which point all the matter in the universe begins to contract until the mono-block is re-established and the cycle begins again. The pure Big Bang theory contends that the universe will continue its expansion forever.
The most powerful basic premise of science since the 17th century has been: What is the evidence? Does the evidence support your theory or illuminate the contradictions within it? What evidence is there to support the Big Bang theory?
Currently there are three major pieces of evidence that have led the Big Bang theory to hold sway in cosmology today.
1) During the early development of Microwave communications systems, researchers from Bell Labs found a background noise, a hiss' they could not explain. Further research and experimentation led them to conclude that this noise was coming from radiation that permeates the universe and was caused by the explosion of the mono-block that we call the Big Bang theory.
2) Estimates of the size and distribution of matter throughout the universe has led cosmologists to conclude that there would not be enough of a gravitational effect to halt the expansion of the universe given its current speed of expansion. This leads to the conclusion that the universe will continue to expand indefinitely.
3) Given the current computed course and speed of the stars that have been studied in this context up until now, their paths can be backtracked to a common point of origin.
So what caused the mono-block to explode resulting in the Big Bang? I do not know but I do have questions. Could the internal conditions within the mono-block have been suffering from the same internal pressures that lead stars to go nova or super-nova? Ask a cosmologist or better yet condense a universe into a mono-block and see what happens. My point being that this is why they are theories; all the facts are not in. When new facts are found, new theories are generated and old ones either updated or discarded. That is the nature of science when it is unfettered by religion.
This process of revision is also, supposedly, the number one ally of the mystics and supporters of the Big Man belief. Their argument being that science is unreliable because it is nothing but a continual series of errors and mistakes. Therefore, science is not to be trusted whereas their unchanging Universal Truth is be relied on and trusted and should be the foundation of all thought. Their belief is the final word. In cosmology the final word can be reduced to this: God (whichever one you care to choose) was lonely and bored. He created the universe for something to do to alleviate the boredom. He populated at least one planet (Earth) with all manner of species for something else to do. That kept him busy for a while but he was still lonely so he created Man to give him someone to talk to and, through faith, to control. Hence the universe and all its creatures came to be thought the agency of God's thought and will.
Religion, like science and philosophy, is an attempt to explain the universe and man's place in it. The difference is this. Scientific thought discards outworn theories when the evidence is against them. Religions either ignore the evidence or create a new religion to get rid of inconvenient realities. For example, Galileo did not discover the Earth was round, he re-discovered that fact. The Greeks knew it about two thousand years earlier but religious zealots in the Middle Ages found it an inconvenient truth and discarded that knowledge in order to secure their position as the ultimate Authority.
Every religion has a belief about the creation of the world or the universe, including the witch doctors of the most primitive tribes on the planet. Their evidence consists of a mixture of fear, fact, wishes and drug or hunger induced hallucinations posing revelations given to the prophets by gods or demons.
Science attempts, quite successfully, to correct its errors in thought while religion abandons thought to their feelings and wishes and then tries to justify their beliefs through supposedly rational argument, (e.g. How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?) or though simple threats (i.e. Believe what I say or burn in Hell). Most commonly their arguments (!) are a combination of the two methods. If they don't like a given edict or specific application of the belief system, however, they merely start a new sect or religion. (And they accuse science of being unreliable, untrustworthy and whimsical!)
The major difference in cosmology in regards to the origin of the universe is one of mind-set. Science seeks to discover the truth (currently judged to be the Big Bang Theory) without fear or prejudice while a religion (the Big Man ideology) attempts to dictate the truth using the fears and prejudices of the believers to control them and stop them from asking questions. I prefer to face my fears and not let them dictate my belief in a rational, sane universe.

Big Man
Created on: October 19, 2008 Last Updated: December 16, 2009
For as far back as records indicate, man has been riddled with the question "How did I get here?".
For the last few years I have been on an absolute truth quest; I don't want to simply live life according to some other man's beliefs, assumptions, philosophies or theories, I want to know for myself. So I started asking questions and I even questioned the answers which resulted in what I will do my best to articulate in this article.
When dealing with this subject there are three components that must be analyzed: Nature, The Big Man and the Big Bang. If we took a little time to examine nature we would find that we are intricately woven into it and hence human life is a result. Nature refers to the phenomena of the physical world and also to life in general. The word nature is derived from the Latin word natura, which means "the course of things, or natural character."
So as we delve deeper into nature, let us focus our attention upon the earth. I will begin by proclaiming that the earth is alive. Now before you start to laugh, I do not mean alive as you and I are alive with conscience and mental faculties, but the earth is alive by way of its natural course. The earth is alive, and, as a result, it is able to sustain life. Everything that we need to sustain life is offered to us from the earth. Fruits and vegetables are offered up to us from the earth. The air that we breath proceeds from the plants that proceed from the earth. The water that we drink proceeds from the earth and these all help to sustain life for mankind.
Observe the critical link between water and a seed during the germination process. The seed has life propensity within itself, but without water this life will not activate. But what about water? isn't it one part hydrogen and two parts oxygen? Do not plants provide oxygen? With analysis of that simple fact, we can say that one cannot exist without the other and furthermore, one could have not been here before the other which is very powerful. Consider this startling fact, you cannot have water without oxygen, you cannot have oxygen without plant life and you cannot have plant life without water. So then all of these individual elements had to be in existence simultaneously in order for them to exist today, but that is virtually impossible. How can you get something from nothing? We again ask the question "which came first the chicken or the egg?".
Nature is observed as a phenomena, because it is really unexplainable. The fact that there is a course of nature, compels me to search for closure. If there is a course that nature follows then we understand that there is a law of nature. The law of gravity for instance, has always been the same and will never change. Aircraft may defy gravity for a period, but what goes up must come down for the law of gravity is steadfast. Germination is bound by a natural law: The seed is planted, given the proper temperature, water, sunlight and the plant begins to grow. The plant matures and produces seeds of its kind which will perpetuate the existence of the plant. The law is set with no deviations in each elemental factor or you will not have life. The amazing piece of this is the fact that all creation is bound by laws that are intricately woven into the law which plant life is bound by.
As we move up the classification scale you will find similar type laws that living organisms are bound by.
Time for a little sex education.
Life is a result of a complex string of elements being united to together. Hydrogen and Oxygen unite and we have water, water, seed and light unite and a plant is produced. Let us look at mankind.
Man carries a seed referred to as sperm, which carries 23 chromosomes and a host of essential elements such as: enzymes, flavins, fructose, proteins and, yes, vitamin C. One key element here is protein, which carries a genetic code being a set of rules by which information encoded in genetic material (DNA or RNA sequences) is translated into proteins (amino acid sequences) by living cells. So we find information packed into this microscopic seed called sperm. It very similar to writing a software program, the data is encoded into language that a computer understands, which enables it to execute a specific function. From all of this we can get the sex type, hair type, eye color you name it. This little seed finds its way into the awaiting ovum in the woman which also carries 23 chromosomes and an embryo begins to develop.
Now that we have placed both of these instances in view, is it irrational to claim that an explosion brought these delicate sequences of events into existence. Is it even logical to suggest that this elaborate course of nature was refined through a series of evolutions? The seed of every creature carries a genetic code that is bound by the law of nature. All mammals may have skin that is similar, eyes, nose, mouth etc. but the genetic code confines all creatures to their own species and ultimate habitat. Apes did not evolve into humans, if they did apes would no longer exist. Human life did not begin in a pond as a crude protozoa that morphed its way up the classification scale. You may ask me the question, how do you know? and I will tell you that with analysis of your DNA it will tell you who your parents are with a 99.99% accuracy. You can trace our human lineage all the way back to the first man and he will look like you and I today, aside from obvious social factors that would somewhat shape his individual appearance etc. If we did evolve, why are we no longer evolving? who or what pulled the plug?
But lets deal with this "Big Man" now.
The bible says that God created all living things and in Gen 1:24 He said let the earth "bring forth" the living creature after its kind, which literally means "to give birth to" or "to break out from". Two verses later he says let us make man in our image and likeness, as he then scoops up dirt from the ground and forms man. Of course this statement has to be accepted by faith, but if we look at it logically, I believe that the tie between us and nature backs this up 100%.
Just what is man? What are the animals of the field? The answer is dust or, in simple terms, dirt. Man is of the earth and everything that he needs comes from the earth and when his life expires he will return to the earth. The vitamins, minerals and nutrients that we need to maintain health and vitality comes from the earth. If we don't wash ourselves dirt accumulates. Another term for dirt is soil, soil is called earth and it is soil that is comprised of organic or life sustaining elements hence, our planet is called earth for its life sustaining characteristics. Without a lengthy exegeses on our solar system you will find that the earth was so delicately placed into perfect proximity from the sun in order to sustain life.
No explosion could produce this, it is the infinite genius of the architect of the ages. You can see his finger print in all living creatures and a common thread woven that ties us all back into himself. I will hedge my bet on the "Big Man".
