Has Paris Hilton Found God?

There is a scripture that says (and I am paraphrasing) that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to get into Heaven. I used to think that this meant that God didn't particularly care for the rich. Then a pastor presented an analysis that made a little more sense; he said that in biblical times, people thought that since money bought privilege, surely a rich man would have no trouble getting into Heaven, and if a rich man couldn't get into Heaven, who could? Thus, this illustration was given to prove that no man without Jesus had a chance at all, and this included the rich and privileged. Since then, I have reflected on this idea myself and my interpretation is that a rich person would be more unlikely to seek the Lord, as we usually do this when we feel weak and powerless and realize just how much we need Him. The poor, or at least people down on their luck, would be more likely to seek divine intervention because where else are they going to turn?

If Paris says she interacted with God, who am I to doubt her? We do tend to call out for God in our darkest hours. This is probably the one and only time in her life that Paris ever felt a need that her wealth and privilege couldn't buy her. Quite likely she felt alone and unloved during her incarceration and her times of solitude led to self-introspection and some serious soul searching. These are moments not all experience; we are creatures of the flesh, and when our desires are fulfilled at a moment's whim, our only thoughts are of finding new and exciting ways to further indulge ourselves. Our thoughts rarely turn to anything beyond the next pretty bauble that is easily within our reach. A rich and famous celebrity doesn't lack for friends and attention. Everyone fawns all over such a person, hoping to get closer to them and to gain a little bit of power and advantages for themselves. If you can become part of such a person's entourage, you too may become the next media's darling. The saying that money can't buy friends is debatable. And if you can't buy friends, you certainly can buy all the companionship you want.

The question is not whether or not Paris found God; the question is if she did, in fact, experience a relationship with God, will she continue to walk with Him? Now she has returned to her mansion and her luxurious lifestyle. She is free to resume her life of night clubbing in her newest skimpy ensemble, while surrounded by those who want to be just like her. Will she remember how much she needed God during the short time she spent with nothing but bare walls around her? Will Paris choose to spend her days continuing to pursue a life of self-indulgence, or will she use her fame, fortune, and power to do something to leave a more lasting mark on the world?

I cannot claim to know Paris Hilton's heart, and am therefore not qualified to judge her. Only she knows if she truly has the Lord in her life. I can speculate based on what she does with her life, but only the Lord knows her heart. Paris Hilton is one of the privileged few that live in a position of power and notoriety. Whether she uses her power for good or for selfish pleasures remains to be seen. I, for one, would love to see Paris become renown for her generous acts of kindness, for helping the poor and underprivileged, and for publicly declaring how the Lord has moved her to do these things, while imploring others to join her. Think of all the great things she could accomplish and the influence she could have on others. Imagine seeing Paris Hilton's face in all the tabloids, not for what she is wearing, or for being seen in some club with her latest arm candy, but for recognition in her contributions for charitable work in the name of the Lord. I would truly love to see this. Paris, are you listening?

This probably isn't worth touching with a ten foot pole but here goes anyhow. In the first place, Paris Hilton's situation is of her own making. In the second place, it really isn't my business but it irritates me to see not just Paris, but all these "poor little rich kids" get away with crimes because of the family name and bank account.

Do I think Miss Hilton has "Found God" and is now going to mend her ways and do all these wonderful things for society, her fellowman. I have no way of knowing her heart, only God knows that. Maybe yes, probably no. The thing is, she is sitting in jail. She is not getting her own way and she is very used to being able to bargin and buy her way in and out of anything. Old habits are hard to break. There is this thing about it...You can plead and promise and swear up hill and down that you will mend your ways when you are stuck in an unpleasant, uncomfortable situation, and most of us do just that, but when we are no longer in that situation all those promises are very quickly forgotten. That is all part of our human element. We are looking out for good old number one. More likely than not, that is just what is going on here. We won't know until she is free again. God already knows.

Whether it is Paris Hilton, you, my next door neighbor, her next door neighbor or me...when we break the law there is consequenses to pay and according to all I've read, Miss Hilton broke the law, more than once and hasn't seemed to have learned her lessons from the experience. If you deo the crime, you're gonna do the time. That is just how it is aned eventually you're going to get caught, even if your name is Paris Hilton. I don't for one minute believe she has really changed. She's scared. She ought to be. She's feeling abused. She isn't. She's trying to find a way out of the mess she is in. Not going to happen, not her way, not on pleas and promises. I hope she serves every minute of her time because if she gets off with a lighter punishment she isn't going to learn. The next time she has partied to hardy and is driving drunk it may just cost someone's life and probably not hers. She needs to lose a few of her priviledges and freedoms for a time and consider the consequenses of her actions. Freedom comes at a very high price and Freedom can not be bought with money or false promises. It is high time she and all the others among societies elite learned that the law is for everyone and no amount of money or prestege puts you above the law.

Jail time is not "Happy Camp" and isn't for any of us who have to spend time there. It isn't suppose to be. Does she deserve to be there? Absolutely. She broke the law and the penelty for the law she broke is jail time. Just because Miss Hilton was born among the priviledged does not give her the right or priviledge of breaking the law.

Has she learned anything from this? Maybe, maybe not, I have my doubts. Has she found God? I don't know. Did she even look for God or is this just another ploy of the "poor little rich girl" to get her own way. You can't bargain with God because God already knows what is in your heart. I hope she has and I hope she means it heart and soul, but then, haven't we all heard this song before?
