XBox 360

As a gaming enthusiast, my soul heart rests on purchasing an XBox 360 Premium model. Why? Well, here are some examples:

Comparing to the eagerly awaited arrival of Sony's newest installment of Playstation, comes the Playstation 3 (PS3). PS3 is substantial, when comparing it to the XBox 360 console. The fact that players of the Microsoft's developed machine has the ability to save music information and gaming information on to the hard-drive, is a big bonus. What this means is, when a player saves his or her information on a certain game, they can automatically resume play from that saved point in the game, just by accessing the memory from the hard drive. This saves time of locating the game disc and inserting it into the slot of the machine. Sony's PS3 machine, however, doesn't have this techonology implanted in to the machine.

Putting the matter of money to one side, the thing about the PS3 is...it's only really worth while obtaining one of these machines if a person has an HD-TV in their household. Without one of these television sets, the PS3 is practically playing a dearer, heavier, and fatter version of Sony's previous console, the Playstation 2. When the PS3 was released, there was the standard model of the 40GB, which was followed up by the 8GB machine. (There was for a time, a 60GB PS3, but they no longer make them). You'd have thought, with such a high proximity of memory hardware put into the machine, the PS3 would have been easily compatible with Playsation 2 games. Unfortunately, the 40GB and the 8GB machines do not have the hardware to make this adaptable. It just doesn't have enough information to allow it to access that kind of information. The other thing about the newest PS3, the fact that it cannot play normal DVDs is a big, big con! It can play music, it can play your games, it can store your saved information, if provides you with free Internet accessibility, but since it can only read the Blue-Ray format of the newest DVDs, this is a big let down for such an eagerly-awaited console.

Unlike Microsoft's latest XBox 360 machines, it has the ability to store and save information from your gaming discs, which allow players to just access the game from an icon in the starting-up screen. The fact that the machine is potentially better in graphics, cheaper, is far more valuable. Again, there are different variations concerning the type of memory accessibility in the Xbox 360 machines. There is something that is called the XBox 360 Arcade. This is the machine would extremely new people would probably be worth while getting. However, they may take in to account the fact that the Arcade does not hold a lot of memory space; it cannot access the Internet, it cannot save music information. This is a transitional machine for players wishing to try out a new kind of gaming experience.

When it comes to the XBox 360 Premium, the slightly more advanced version of the console, there are a lot of benefactors to take in to account about this wonderful machine. It has the enhancement of Internet access being available - the unfortunate side to this is the fact that people have to pay money to access the Net commands, unlike Sony's free accessibility (there are advantages and disadvantages to both machines). If you have a rooter leading from your PC, you can access the Net via that by connecting the wires from your XBox 360, instead of purchasing an Adaptor cable. You can also play any kind of DVD on your XBox 360 machine, too. There is also a black XBox 360 machine, but that is just for Pro-gamers. What I mean by that is, this machine is for the people that sit in their houses and play away at their games for eight/ten hours a day, saving damn loads of information, buying a new game the moment it comes out, completing it within a day or so. Don't bother wasting such an hilarious amount of money on something which isn't important. Alright, the machine has 120GB of memory space, but that is really the reason why you'd even consider getting the machine - the memory space it has, nothing more, nothing less.

Conclusively, if I really had to decide on a new console, it would definitely be the XBox 360. Sometimes there are games only out for the XBox 360 machine, which do not appear on any of the other consoles, which is a bit of a scam for other game developers, but it's the way Microsoft have decided to work out.

Think about your options wisely. Select XBox 360!

PS 3

It's a question I'm asked all day at my job, working for a chain videogame retailer who shall remain nameless, "Should I buy the Xbox or the PlayStation 3?"

It's apparently an extremely prevalent issue, and in my opinion, being unsure of which toy to spend hundreds of dollars on is a great problem to have. But I digress. I generally answer their questions in this way:

"Well, it depends on whether or not you'd like to keep paying for your system."

People look at the pricing options for each system ($199-$399 for the 360, $399 or $499 for the PS3) and think that the 360 must be the better deal. The thing is, the 360 is never just what the sticker price is.

So you look and say that you'd like the $199 XBox 360. Well, do you want to play online? Oh, okay well then you're going to have to buy the $299 model instead, because that's the cheapest one you can buy that comes with the necessary hard drive (60 GB). You could double-up that hard drive space for another $100, too. Do you want to wirelessly hook up your system to the internet? Because then you'll also have to buy the $100 wireless network adapter. So already we're up to $400, the price of the baseline PS3. Oh! Before I forget, since you'd like to play online, you're going to have to pay $50 A YEAR TO DO SO.

Now, The 80GB PS3 model is wireless out of the box, and its online features are free to access. With the other model, the extra $100 gets you double that hard drive space, plus a game valued at $65. If we're assuming that hard drives basically are worth $100 each, that's one free game right there. And we haven't even gotten to the fact that it's also a Blu-Ray player.

I don't know, financially, it seems obvious to me. But I feel like I'm still forgetting one big factor...

OH! right.

These Xbox 360s? They BREAK. I can't begin to tell how how many people a week come into my store, or call us up, or email, asking what to do because their 360 has the "Red Ring of Death" on it. This is a problem that is basically the equivalent of the Black Plague back in the middle ages, at least as far as videogame consoles are concerned. It is a problem that can only be fixed by shipping your console back to Microsoft, and I hope to God it's still under warranty.

Since I've worked there, do you know how many people have complained of faulty PS3s? Two. TWO. That's less than three people.

Listen, this is America. We've all got the freedom to choose. If you have the money to throw away, and also like to ship your system away for months at a time when it breaks (and it WILL break), then by all means, pick up an XBox 360 for yourself.

If, however, you're into HD gaming/movies, and enjoy spending money on something once, I think you and your PlayStation 3 are going to be fast friends.
