This is going to sound strange coming from someone who is writing an article that is siding for the Xbox 360 but I honestly dislike these types of debates. Yes, currently the Xbox 360 has the stronger lineup of games and going into this holiday season the year-old box from Microsoft has the advantage but from the standpoint of a gamer I do stress that you should take a serious look at both.
To support my current viewpoint I simply will suggest that one looks a the current library of titles for both systems. The Xbox 360 has had a year head start on Sony's big black box and it shows. Titles that will easily be over-looked such as Dead Rising, Prey, Lost Planet, Blue Dragon and current mega hits such as Gears of War, Forza Motorsport 2 and the Project Gotham Racing series are experiences that you just wont find on the other system... currently.
The funny part is that I haven't even gotten to the so-called "AAA" titles yet. The recently released Bioshock is a phenomenal game and I would suggest picking up an Xbox 360 just for that. It's possible that the game may be released for the PS3 by the end of next year but I wouldn't be willing to hold out and take that risk.
Also, if you are a Madden or NHL fan I hate to inform you that the Playstation 3 versions of those games are only running in 30 frames-per-second versus the 360's 60fps. If you don't know what that is I suggest you check out one of the many comparison videos of Madden online and see what 60fps gives you versus 30.
There are several games slated for fall that look to be big hits as well. One of the biggest releases is Mass Effect. Bioware, best known for their work on the Knights of the Old Republic series, have a sure hit on their hands with this action-rpg that is a graphical powerhouse. If that isn't enough, I suggest you check out a little game coming out by the name of Halo 3. I believe that hits September 25th.
Don't forget, there are plenty of big name titles coming out for both systems. Rock Band, Guitar Hero III and most of the EA/2K sports franchises will be hitting this fall but wouldn't you like the added choice of grabbing Halo 3 and Mass Effect along with all those multi-platform titles? I know I would.

It's a question I'm asked all day at my job, working for a chain videogame retailer who shall remain nameless, "Should I buy the Xbox or the PlayStation 3?"
It's apparently an extremely prevalent issue, and in my opinion, being unsure of which toy to spend hundreds of dollars on is a great problem to have. But I digress. I generally answer their questions in this way:
"Well, it depends on whether or not you'd like to keep paying for your system."
People look at the pricing options for each system ($199-$399 for the 360, $399 or $499 for the PS3) and think that the 360 must be the better deal. The thing is, the 360 is never just what the sticker price is.
So you look and say that you'd like the $199 XBox 360. Well, do you want to play online? Oh, okay well then you're going to have to buy the $299 model instead, because that's the cheapest one you can buy that comes with the necessary hard drive (60 GB). You could double-up that hard drive space for another $100, too. Do you want to wirelessly hook up your system to the internet? Because then you'll also have to buy the $100 wireless network adapter. So already we're up to $400, the price of the baseline PS3. Oh! Before I forget, since you'd like to play online, you're going to have to pay $50 A YEAR TO DO SO.
Now, The 80GB PS3 model is wireless out of the box, and its online features are free to access. With the other model, the extra $100 gets you double that hard drive space, plus a game valued at $65. If we're assuming that hard drives basically are worth $100 each, that's one free game right there. And we haven't even gotten to the fact that it's also a Blu-Ray player.
I don't know, financially, it seems obvious to me. But I feel like I'm still forgetting one big factor...
OH! right.
These Xbox 360s? They BREAK. I can't begin to tell how how many people a week come into my store, or call us up, or email, asking what to do because their 360 has the "Red Ring of Death" on it. This is a problem that is basically the equivalent of the Black Plague back in the middle ages, at least as far as videogame consoles are concerned. It is a problem that can only be fixed by shipping your console back to Microsoft, and I hope to God it's still under warranty.
Since I've worked there, do you know how many people have complained of faulty PS3s? Two. TWO. That's less than three people.
Listen, this is America. We've all got the freedom to choose. If you have the money to throw away, and also like to ship your system away for months at a time when it breaks (and it WILL break), then by all means, pick up an XBox 360 for yourself.
If, however, you're into HD gaming/movies, and enjoy spending money on something once, I think you and your PlayStation 3 are going to be fast friends.
