Are on line college degree programs helpful to your career?
I am a member of the virtual classroom. I only realized going to college on line was called distant learning after I started my instruction at an on line college. I am now a sophomore, in the BA program, and have totally enjoyed my experience thus far.
I am disabled and never thought I would be able to go back to college. I am 48 years old and I am basically home bound. Due to my disability, I am unable to drive; I also find it hard to get transportation. The on line college is perfect for me. Without the on line college, I would be unable to receive my college degree. I plan to use my education to teach on line.
I had been out of school for 30 years, so the university eased me back into the school atmosphere. I am doing better than I ever thought I would be able to do academically. The college offers many refresher courses for professionals just as the community colleges around the country. They offer workshops for students that need to be tutored. Workshops are also offered for those to receive for their jobs, or careers, just as community colleges offer them. The on line college now offers many degrees, and are adding many more degrees and courses to their programs every year.
I have known people that go back to college on line to get a promotion or increase their wages. They have proven to be successful. I have also known others that have completed their Master Degree's and are just as successful. In this day and age, an on line degree seems to be as acceptable as other colleges around the country.
I started college in December of 2006, and will graduate with my BA in January of 2011. At that time, I will be able to teach on line while I finish college and get my Masters with Special Education certification. The on line college was originally set up to for the working adult to finish college or get the certification they need to help them advance in their jobs. Now the on line college is becoming very popular, and I believe it is the wave of the future. For the people that did not go straight into college from high school.
