Not everyone should own a Pitbull. There are so many theories and rumors that people just take other people's word for instead of researching the subject and separating the myths from the true facts of the breed. This article is intended to give you, the reader, resources of information that you can see for yourself the facts, and hopefully maybe even see the Pitbull Breed in a different light.
There are many mythsthat people have spread rumors about when it comes to Pitbulls and their nature. This is sad, because it has ruined the reputation of the breed, and has made people hate them so much, that some people feel that the only thing that Pit Bulls are good for is fighting dogs. When raised and trained properly,Pitbulls have the potential to make amazing pets. To decide if a Pit Bull is the right breed for you, your family, and your living situation, you should look to a professional, who has spent years working with and studying the breed and can determine whether or not the breed is a good fit for you.
Pitbulls, have a lot of energy and need a lot of room to run. If you are going to leave your Pitbull in a yard, it needs to be fenced in and the fence needs to be tall enough that the dog can not get over it if it see's something on the other side that it feels like playing with, like the neighbors cat or a squirrel climbing in a tree in the neighbors yard. You never know, this could lead the dog right into the busy street and a tragic accident could happen, that could have easily been prevented. Pitbulls need regular exercise, either from going on long walks a few times a day, having a large yard to run in, or going to a park where it can run off its energy. Unless you have the time to do this, or hire someone to do it for you, then the Pitbull Breed may not be the right one for you.
Some people feel that the only thing that a Pitbull is good for, is a fighting dog and that is absolutely not the case. Some people have it in their heads that Pitbulls have a "lock jaw" that can not release after it has bit down on something that it is attacking. This myth, could not be further from the truth. Experts have studied this in all breeds of dogs and the fact is that it will release when instructed to do so.
Pitbulls are not good for someone who works all the time, or travels a lot for work, unless the dog will be going with them. Pitbulls may not be a suitable breed for someone who is elderly and does not have a lot of strength to handle the Pitbull, because it is a strong dog breed, and can be easily excited if it see's something that it wants to explore, like another animal or a human that it may already know.
