Unfortunately, yes-social networking sites have replaced dating sites. And why do I say that, you might ask?
Just think about the amount of time you spend in front of your computer or laptop logging into your Facebook, Twitter and MySpace accounts. Do you think you're the only one devoting hours upon hours to this new phenomenon? Everyone is doing it! Including all the single, available, future brides and grooms of the world! Who has time for dating sites?
Let's start with Facebook, the mother of all social networks. By the time you get through updating your status, reading your friends updates, check your private messages, reply and respond, like and unlike, friend and defriend-well golly-gee! It's time for Farmville! So you mozy on over to your farm-unless you're one of many who needs to refresh a gazillion times before it loads-so you can harvest, plow, plant, gather chicken eggs, tend to animals and trees: Not to mention all the extra time-chomping activities like building a pigpen or a beehive-come on! And if Farmville isn't sucking the life out of you, there's always Cafe World, Pet World, Fish World, Zoo Life, Pet Life, Fronterville, Treasure Isle, Restaurant World, Cuckoo World, I Need To Get A Life World, Crazy In The Headville and Somebody Pull The Plugville. Who has time to look for a date? Besides Facebook takes up all of Friday night anyway...
Twitter? We just can't begin our day without telling everyone and their mother what kind of tea we are having at 7:00 a.m, now can we? Oh, and you just have to check out the constant tweets of your favorite celebrities. Kim Kardashian is putting gas in her car! Tweet this...
Do you have a MySpace account? I don't, I have no room for MySpace.
In between all of the above, we shower, get dressed, grab a bowl of cereal and-if we are lucky enough to have a job-drive to work, some of us to school, where we hop on our iPhone and/or office computer for Round 2.
We have become the supreme multitaskers of utter nonsense and in the process have forgotten what it's like to meet someone face-to-face and have a meaningful conversation. We no longer seek the time to contemplate our future in terms of marriage and family. Honestly, when was the last time you entertained at length the thought of meeting someone that you could grow old with? Dating sites? Who has the time...YAY! My crops are ready, gotta go!

Social networking sites are different from dating sites for a reason: they include everyone.
From children to grandparents or important people of the world, social networking sites have everyone on the site, allowing friends to see your other friends and see the games you play or even just updating your status.
Dating sites only allow those who are looking for someone special in their life and the specifications of this special someone. Children or teenagers aren’t in the sight updating their statuses about the new toy they’ve received or how they got grounded from not doing too good in school.
No, social networking sites have not replaced the dating sites.
Yes, social networking sites have everything that dating sites do: the likes, interests, hobbies and specifications of someone special a person is looking for and more. Social networking sites let you play games, upload photos of friends and the last vacation you took and everyone else can see them.
Dating sites are limited to a certain age to prevent lawsuits and limited to just your information and dream love.
But really, do you want everyone else (including your mom, boss and everyone else) to know that you are looking for someone to date?
Or the fact that you don’t like kissing in public? Or the fact that you like men who are tall, dark and handsome? Or the fact that you like women whose hair is long and smells like strawberries?
If we compare it to real world situations, it’s going to be awkward.
A social networking site is like the mall. You can do anything and everything at the mall. You can buy clothes, go to the bathroom, eat some food and even hangout with your friends or play a game at the arcade place.
A dating site is like a room for your privacy. A bathroom for example. You can do your make up there, do your number ones and number twos, take a bath, play with bubbles or even sing a song in the shower. Unfortunately, you can’t eat in the bathroom, play with your friends while taking a shower or buy some clothes.
But it doesn’t matter, because that’s what a bathroom is for. Privacy.
Social networking sites are for networking with other people, connecting as friends or family. Dating sites are for looking for a lover someplace that’ll give you special attention.
That’s why social networking sites can’t replace dating sites.
