Country

Taylor Swift is a country/pop singer. She writes about almost everything she endures. She writes songs about love most of the time but at some point in time they are remixed to be pop but start out as country. She also writes songs about things that she knows teenagers go through. For example here is what Taylor had to say about “Love Story “was this: In Swift's words: "This is a song I wrote when I was dating a guy who wasn’t exactly the popular choice. His situation was a little complicated, but I didn’t care. I started this song with the line this love is difficult, but it’s real. When I wrote the ending to this song, I felt like it was the ending every girl wants to go with her love story. It’s the ending that I want. You want a guy who doesn’t care what anyone thinks, what anyone says. He just says, “Marry me, Juliet, I love you, and that’s all I really know.”
“Fearless” is a song about the fearlessness of falling in love but it has a country tune. Taylor said: “This song is about the best first date I haven’t had yet.” “Fifteen” is a song that Taylor wrote about her best friend, Abigail. She said that she wrote the song because she was feeling in her first year of High School.
The song “White Horse” is more of a sad song. Taylor said: “To me, “White Horse” is about what, in my opinion, is the most heart-breaking part of a break-up – that moment when you realize that all the dreams you had, all those visions you had of being with this person, all that disappears.” About the song.
The song “Forever and Always” is about when Taylor was in a relationship with a guy. She said she wrote the song because she said she could see him slowly slipping away. She said she had no idea why. It’s about the confusion and frustration of waiting and wondering why.
The song “Tell me Why” is about, well actually I really think she can explain it better: “ I’d been talking to a guy I’ve never “officially” dated. Sometimes it’s the hardest thing when you have all these dreams of dating them, and you’re getting close, but it doesn’t work out. He would say things that would make me go, “Did you just say that?” It bothered me so much because he would say one thing and do another, do one thing and say another. Because he didn’t know what he wanted, he would just play all these mind games.”
Some people may say she is a pop artist but she is a country artist. She is signed with Big Machine Records. She is young and beautiful and wise. Anybody can say she is pop artist but she believes she is a country artist. I know it’s just an opinion about what I’m about to type but it’s a good one. Taylor went from being a beautiful small town girl to a well known country/pop singer but she knows what to write about to make a hit. If I had to pick one person in the entire world to meet it would be her. She is more of a country artist rather than pop artist.

Taylor Swift looks as though butter would not melt between her lips, but there is much more to this young songstress. What it is is an extremely savvy head on her young pretty shoulders, probably ably assisted by a huge horde of advisers and guidance on how to manage her career. These advisors are also probably milking the situation for all it is worth and whilst Taylor Swift the brand is one people can buy in to, they are more than happy to package the youngster, however is best to make the biggest buck for the company.
Make no mistake Taylor Swift is a property, a brand and if there were a way to market her in the classical, opera, jazz, funk, fusion, garage, r & b and contemporary Icleandic folk market they will find a way to tap into it. So is Taylor Swift a country or a pop artist, in reality she is both and neither. She sits in that uncomfortable category called Crossover artist.
So what is a crossover act? Put simply one that seems to be something else before making it big as something different from the original. Country has produced more than its fair share of these acts including Leanne Rimes, Shania Twain, Garth Brooks and now the pert Taylor Swift. Sure Taylor Swift can wear cowboy boots and a ten gallon hat and profess to be a country gal at heart, but when you combine her undoubted talent with a huge marketing budget there has to be a commercial return. In the United States where country music is huge business this is relatively easy, but in other markets around the world, with a different take on the merits of country music the angle used to get through the door is different.
Any marketing man or woman worth their salt will tell you, it is not the product you are selling, it is the image and the style. Taylor Swift is the latest in an extremely long line of talent young pretty girl singers who will within ten years have reached the end of their shelf life and will be yesterdays news. Again, country music has a depressingly high casualty list of failed singers who were hyped for a while and then dropped like a sack of trash at a moments notice.
Taylor Swift has probably done a clever move by making herself even more marketable by being a crossover artist and ensuring the maximum length of career possible by veering from country to pop and back again. If in the future she finds she can sing an aria or become an R&B diva she may well extend it even further. Nothing is out of the realms of possiblity in the crazy world of popular pop/country.
