Yes, filtered tap water is better than bottled water. Not only is it less expensive, but there are several other benefits that filtered tap water offers. This article will explain why filtered tap water is better than bottled water.
>>> Price <<<
Buying a water filtration system (even with replacement filters) for a home faucet will be much cheaper than buying bottled water in the long run. If you buy bottled water often for several years, then your amount of money spent could be in the thousands of dollars! If you want to be able to bring your water with you wherever you please, then you can buy a re-usable water bottle at your store. You can use it for sports, everyday water drinking, etc., without having to buy individual bottles of water which will add up greatly over time.
>>> Healthiness <<<
Drinking filtered tap water is healthier than drinking water that has been sitting in plastic bottles. This is because many plastics that are used for bottled water containers contain un-healthy chemicals. Add the factors of how the bottled water may have sat in heat while being shipped and how long the water has been in the bottles and suddenly the water (which may have absorbed those chemicals) doesn't look so appealing. Filtered tap water on the other hand can take out bad chemicals and pollutants and leave the water clean for drinking.
>>> Not All It's Cracked Up To Be <<<
Bottled water isn't all it's cracked up to be. Although you may think that the water that you buy in the bottles is "special" or from a spring somewhere, it usually isn't. If you look at the label of a bottle of water it should tell where it is from. Many times it will say that the water is just the city water from the place where the water was packaged, not some magical spring. The bottled water that you may be drinking could very easily be the same water that comes through your typical tap - without an added filtration system. Buying tap water in a bottle that can be unhealthy is definitely not the best way to spend your money.
Bottled water has many disadvantages and a cost that can be much more expensive than the alternative. Tap water, even with a home water filtration system, is obviously much cheaper (and even healthier) than buying many bottles of water over a long period of time.

The bottled water industry has exploded within the past ten years. Why and how did this happen? Twenty or thirty years ago you would have been laughed out of a room if you made this prediction! Except for specialty bottled water retailers such as Evian or Perrier, the bottled water industry really didn't exist. Now, it's a billion dollar per year industry that shows no signs of slowing down.
Personally, I hate to pay for something as common as water. Just like I was aghast when I saw my first air pump that required me to put quarters in the slot, paying for bottled water goes against my better judgement. I'd rather take the money and buy a soft drink or some juice! But my wife pays for bottled water all the time, and our cupboards always have a least a case of the stuff! And I'm the one who has to lug it from the car up the steps to our kitchen! Is bottled water that much better than tap water?
I decided an experiment was in order to try to determine which was better, tap or bottled water. So when my tea-drinking wife wanted me to make her next cuppa and open up a bottled water to boil, I decided I would use good old tap water. I couldn't wait to see the results of this experiment, and after her tea was made I headed off to the living room, grabbed the newspaper and waited to hear the results.
"Good tea honey"! Ah Ah! I knew she wouldn't be able to tell the difference, and I couldn't wait to tell her that I used plain tap water. "Are you kidding me, is this really the tap water that I hate to drink?"
"Yup" I replied, just like the proverbial cat that swallowed the canary. I told her about my experiment, and she really couldn't believe that her tea tasted so good. So from now on, we save money using plain old tap water to make the tea and the coffee. We've noticed a savings in our grocery bills as well, and I'm lugging less water up the stairs.
As far as drinking water in it's natural state however, she still insists on drinking from the bottle. Maybe a new experiment is in order, substituting the bottled water for tap water..........
