When Valentine's Day comes around, most singles want to vomit or hide under the covers for the rest of the day. Valentine's Day just make singles cringe when they even hear the word. Why? Singles do this because they feel left out. Valentine's is about love & romance. Not being alone. Who would want to celebrate when their alone anyways?

How does one actually enjoy a day of love when they do not have a significant other one might ask. Well, Valentine's Day doesn't have to always be about a romantic relationship. It can still be about love, but in different forms.

Singles can make Valentine's Day a day they show their loved ones they care and are appreciative of them.

They can buy a Valentine's card for their parents, friends, or even siblings. They can also do something special for a stranger, such as a homeless person, to show them they matter and are important in this world too. If any of the singles have kids this is a great way to show them they are special to them. Now days single mom's have very little time to spend with their children because they are working two jobs so simply putting a card under the pillow would help celebrate love on Valentine's Day. These are just some ways that singles can take a part in this holiday.

Also, singles should not let their singleness get in the way of enjoying the holiday.

Valentine's Day can be very enjoyable with all the colors, shapes, & sweets showing up. Singles should just have fun for themselves. In fact singles should get their other single friends including guys and girls and go out on the town..even get glamoured up. They should be happy their single. They should be happy that they don't have to handle the problems that married couples have. They should  be happy in the moment and be free. They should even buy themselves a gift for Valentine's Day. Yes, a gift. Everyone deserves it.

Singles should always know that they are desirable too. Just because they don't have someone to share their life with doesn't mean they are not worthy of love. The time is just not right yet.

Also, singles should be happy for their friends and others who have that handsome man or beautiful woman to love and hold. Their friends will appreciate it and remember when they meet another single. (Hint, Hint) Seriously though, singles should have sincere happiness for their loved ones who are single because one day they will be in their friend's shoes and will want their single friend to be happy for them. The popular cliche, "what goes around comes around" will eventually come true and yes they will also have that chance to celebrate Valentine's Day with their soul mate.

So to all the singles out there for now...just enjoy the love all around on Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day should not be a day for singles to be sad because it's a day for everyone to celebrate. At this time of year February the 14th, cards are sent out to loved ones as well as lovers. It's a day to celebrate romance whether you are attached to someone or not. Buy yourself some roses or go out with friends. Also think about when you were teenagers, the day represented some fun times regardless of whether you had a boyfriend or not. Trips to the movie theater, the bowling alley, Mcdonalds after or even enjoying the atmosphere of being at the mall. Should we also mention the College Freshman and the parties to be had. Valentine's Day was an evening of fun, whether single or attached, so why should anyone be sad on Valentine's Day.

The name Valentine taken from an actual saint, (Saint Valentine, who was martyred around 200 A.D) had nothing to do with romance. It was during the Middle ages when courtship and romantic poetry became a fashion that Valentine's Day came into being. Poets such as Chauser who wrote often about romance, greatly added to this celebration of romantic feelings. At that time many of these recipient's were single young ladies awaiting courtship.

As with all things changes are made as time goes on. The same is true about Valentine's Day the presumption that it's a celebration between lovers only began as the chaperons became extinct. dating more prevalent and lovers more abundant. Remember also that, as I said before loved ones are now included, such as children, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, everyone is on the list for a Valentine's Day card, even that nice professor.

You never know what the future holds, so celebrate the romanticism of the day, with friends, family or even yourself. Go out mingle get to know people. Take out a young family member if you have one, children love to celebrate the day as everyone knows, heart shaped candies, chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate much the same things adults like as well, or maybe participate in one of those singles events that often happens on Valentine's Day,  and there is usually, a few around.  Perhaps lurking on the horizon is a Valentine's Day card from an anonymous admirer with your name on it and an invitation to something splendid, but until then enjoy the day.
