Not so long ago I wrote a column about the burgeoning misandry I see in American pop culture. I see it all around me. With the exception of adventure movies and rap music, men in American pop culture have taken a back seat to the bloated American goddess.

Don't believe me? Then consider the following.

Television commercials typically portray American men as bumbling idiots who can't do anything without screwing it up somehow.

Think of the advertisement where the guy is playing fetch with the family dog, tossing some sort of fictional orange monthly telephone minutes disk out into the yard for the canine to retrieve. His more rational wife comes along only to remind him that "those minutes are still good!"

Then there's the fast-food commercial where the husband has to get the very last penny out of everything, including a jackhammer where he idiotically demolishes the entire sidewalk in front of his home just because he rented the jackhammer for the entire day. At the end of the commercial his wife has to take the soft-drink straw out of his mouth like he's some sort of child while saying to him, "Okay, I think we're done here."

Let's not forget the cereal commercial where the yellow box of oat rings tells the husband to shut up because his wife doesn't like the path their morning dialogue is taking since it concerns her on-going quest for the perfect weight.

Oh, and we can't ignore the Walmart commercial where the good wife brings home steak for dinner and finds it amusing that her husband can't even remember if its his own birthday! He even checks the calendar hanging on the refrigerator in the background to see if it's his birthday.

Even the home-improvement sector joins the fray where the dumb, white dad tries to hoodwink his own son into thinking he's a genius for how he negotiated the best deal to have a new refrigerator delivered, and installed. He also wanted the old one hauled away. - all for free. Everything is fine until the delivery team yanks down the back door of their truck to reveal that it was all included in the purchase price anyhow. "Nice work, dad." the son drawls with a mix of sarcasm, disdain, and sympathy for his imbecile of a father.

The list of "dumb man" commercials currently running on North American television goes on forever! The women in those same ads, meanwhile, always appear wiser, more rational, and completely in control - even when their husband nearly destroys the house.

But the anti-male (specifically anti-white male) reflections go beyond commercials.

Here's a partial list of popular television shows over the past decade or so that have portrayed white men as complete buffoons: The Simpsons; Everybody Loves Raymond; According to Jim; The King of Queens; Home Improvement; Still Standing; Grounded For Life; Secret Girlfriend; Friends; Chuck; and now Modern Family.

The only "desirable" men we see in American pop culture are devastatingly handsome doctors, secret agents, or gay fashion consultants. All the other males come across as disposable jackasses who have to beg for sex even from their blowup dolls! There seems to be no respect nor admiration for the average, work-a-day male reflected by American society.

At the same time, women in America enjoy a halo of perfection! The wives of the husbands on current shows all have more street sense and family wisdom than do their husbands. Even the male professionals of American drama seem constantly set off balance by the feminine machinations of their subordinates and coworkers.

Generally speaking, white men on American TV (and movies) just can't seem to figure out when their gals want sex and when they don't. And the guys seem to forever want sex at the most inappropriate times! Worse than that, they just can't seem to connect with their women on an emotional level! To hear Hollywood tell it, men are thoroughly inept when it comes women and their feelings.

Granted, pop culture is not reality. I would never claim that it is. However, there is this little debate about art imitating life or life imitating art that we cannot ignore here. Art is at the very least, a reflection of life no matter how you view the equation. Art equals life and life equals art! And that's precisely where the danger lies for Americans in general.

You see, sooner or later, these roles we see on television and in our movies will become the standard roles for all to follow. (If that hasn't happened already.) Sure, you might insist that your husband is rather sexy, very capable, and quite the husband today. If, however, pop culture constantly exposes you (and your daughters) to this spreading bias (and even hatred) against the average American male then you will all naturally imitate that pop culture. You will begin to see your husband as an idiot. Your daughters will ultimately believe that men are thoroughly worthless creatures meant only to be controlled and used for sexual gratification, enslavement, and juvenile manipulation.

That eventuality will leave both genders in America hurting and alone.
