New Moon the novel was not better than the movie.  This is a rare position for me to take on any book, I usually always like the books better than the movie.  However, the depression that Bella was suffering when Edward left was a little much.  I know that it was supposed to really make you see how much they loved each other, but it seemed at times she was just whining.  It got almost too repetitive to me.  You wanted to shout "Get over it!"  All the while she has this lovely, young, dark, and handsome guy at her beck and call.  (Well, until he turns into a werewolf anyway.)  Overall, though, you feel like she is being a little stupid.  I suppose that is what you are meant to feel, but it is almost uncomfortable to feel that way about the main character of a favorite series.  I love these books and am not saying by any means it was not a good book.

New Moon introduces us to Jacob the werewolf and that alone makes it worth a read.  His debut as a werewolf in the movie though was absolutely breathtaking.  The way he runs and jumps and changes in front of Bella is awesome.  Even my teenage son was like, wow.  As you know teenage boys are extremely hard to impress since they know everything.  The werewolves in this movie were really something to see and the "pack"  had a really good looking set of young men enough to make so many young ladies swoon.  So, all in all, the werewolf portion of this movie definitely had something for everyone.

The vampires are pretty much absent from the majority of the movie.  You begin with the gift giving of the birthday present and Jasper's bad reaction to Bella's cut.  You really feel sorry for poor Jasper.  The Volturi at the end are a little frightening, in the book you imagine their lair a bit darker and them being more scary.  The fear factor fell a little short in terms of the Volturi in the movie.  We all love the vampires though, that is our ultimate attraction to this series still.

This movie really plays up the werewolves, which in the book was the best part.  It also doesn't drag on the depression of Bella as long  as the book seemed to.  So, for once my opinion is taking the side of the movie over the book.  I really enjoyed it versus not enjoying the book as much.
