Terrell Owens to the Bears: The Bears Should Make It Happen
The biggest NFL rumor sweeping the Internet these days and one that people have been "tweeting" a lot with Twitter has been whether or not Terrell Owens, currently with the Buffalo Bills will be traded to those Monsters of the Midway, the Chicago Bears.
Whether these rumors do in fact turn out to be just rumors, it is interesting, especially if you are a diehard Chicago Bears fan, to think about trading for a player like Owens. Known for his flamboyant behavior and end zone antics, Owens is the kind of player you either admire or despise. There's no question that he is one of the best to play this position and the Bears, who could do well with a wide receiver might want to take a chance with Owens despite his controversial past.
Although it was reported that the Bears have no interest in the 35-year-old wide receiver, especially when they would be giving up some draft picks (they already used up a lot to get Jay Cutler) I think they should reconsider. Granted it is risky to trade for a player of Owens' controversy as well as his age, but Owens is the type of player that could bring the Bears another championship ring.
Obviously it would be a win-win situation for both the Bills and the Bears. The Bills, who are in the process of rebuilding their team, might be looking to unload a veteran player like Owens, who if traded to the Bears would be the kind of player to take the Bears from being a good team to a great team.
Maybe the controversial Owens will find a home with the Bears and liven things up a bit. There's no question that the Bears need a reliable wide receiver, a position that has never been properly filled since the '85 Bears and Willie Gault. Sometimes it takes a team like the legendary Bears with its rich tradition to settle down a player. Although he has been criticized for his flamboyant behavior, remember it was that funky, flamboyant QB Jim McMahon who led those '85 Bears to their first Super Bowl appearance.
And what's wrong with a little flamboyancy and controversy? Look what Dennis Rodman brought to the Bulls on their way to three championship seasons.
The Bears should definitely take a chance with Owens and sign up. Although Owens might be hard to please, he will definitely please Bears' fans and he just might find a home that he likes-Sweet Home Chicago.
