I've always been the kind of person that thinks, "oh well, tomorrow is just another day", and to some extent, I still believe that is true.  But since the recent birth of my second child, I've come to realize that this kind of thinking is probably not beneficial to my children and generations to come, but may in fact be detrimental to my well being.  It doesn't help that the movie industry capitalizes on such fears with movies of world extinction like "The Day After Tomorrow", and "2012".  And whats worst, the world actually seems to be revolting.

The latest eruptions of the Icelandic volcano shutting down air space for several days is just one major headline we've heard about in the news following the devastation of the Haiti Earthquakes, and the more recent quakes that hit middle China.  Not to mention that when I searched for other major earthquakes around the globe, I was astonished to see that those were only the more severe of the many earthquakes most of us never even heard about.  Several of them nowhere near the usually active "ring of fire".  When looking at the picture on a global scale, its easy to get a little unnerved, and almost take stock in their story telling.  While I don't wholeheartedly believe that the world will succumb to such extreme self destruction, I do believe, that our society will.

Shocking headlines like the stock market crashing once again leading to another recession, and governments around the world, including our own, becoming more and more divided on social and moral issues, leave me feeling a little more insecure about the future of both myself, and my children.  The fact that thousands of people die every day due to violence from gang involvement, racism, even family related abuse, are more common than ever.  And there are even more sexual abuse and molestation cases turning up ever day.

These are just a few of the reasons I am concerned about what tomorrow will bring.  That is, not to mention what is going on at a local level.  My children are my future, and as their mother, I would like to see that they have a good future, full of hope and prosperity.  I only hope one day that I can be prepared for the future the way that I should be now. Yes, it's my fault for not making sure that my children don't have to worry about anything from the very beginning, but I pray that when they enter adulthood, they will still be able to live a fulfilling life that allows them to carry on our family traditions and values to the next generation.

I think the beauty of Tomorrow is that it is 'Tomorrow'.

In a world where the indoctrination reigns from above about mortgages, credit and what implications today has on tomorrow, it would seem that we are forever living steps ahead. Where does it end?

The infrastructure of thought is designed to make us think of things in a certain light, think within paramaters that allow for social classes to be maintained and governed by an unseen force that is a mixture of time and sociology. Our insecurities of tomorrows world is what perpetuates this force's very existence. Fear of what will come, fear of what will happen. The fact of the matter is that there is an air of inevitability about it, what will be will be. Success is determined by what we see around us and what we would describe as a successful person is because of what we have 'learned' through our own experiences. To be a good man, an honourable man was good enough so many years ago. Now we have to be driving the newest Aston Martin, Ferrari, big house, big family and loving wife to be deemed a successful man. The way society gauges people today is the exact reason why tomorrow has become an issue. You can give your child an amazing future by going to work everyday and bringing home substantial amounts of money that will enable them to go to good schools and learn to do the same for their child. How many times though is this action not reciprocated by one or more of the children in the family by their children because they have rebelled? I have seen it so many times, parents so caught up in the world of work, bills, pension and achievement that their mind is automatically considering tomorrow today, so today suffers. The sheer inertia of their lives has left behind the people that matter, family, friends and children.

Tomorrow is something that you can spend your life taking for granted and planning for. Sometimes though, tomorrow never comes. Preparation for tomorrow is to be prepared for what? As the saying goes, one thing is for certain in life, you will die. For that very reason I think about the existence of mankind as a whole and think about what we are here to do or achieve in preparation for that time. My children, I hope will grow up into fantastic adults that will conquer the world with their intelligence, be paid for it and leave a legacy of my family name on Earth to emulate their actions! Realistically though, I will settle for my children to be well moralled, good people that will be respected by their peers for their intelligence and understanding that life is about living honourably. Nothing else. The convolution of what society tells us tomorrow should look like is the reason we live for tomorrow and not for today. I really pray that when I 'go' and look back on my life I have a vision of me being honest, true and respected for the qualities that really matter. My children should be people that grow up wanting to achieve things in life; to do great things. Our reasons for wanting these things in life should not be about the Ferrari or Aston Martin; but should be to say that I have tested myself and pushed my earthly mind to the pinnacle of its comprehension. If I rewarded for that with riches, so be it, I won't argue!

We are human beings and tomorrow can be taken away from us so easily. I think the concept of thinking too far forward is farcical, this world is not ours. Global warming, ice caps, whatever the situation, it is what nature is doing and for good reason. I am sure that the dinosaurs were quite angry when they were wiped out, yet they gave way to us to lease Earth for a period. I will not get greedy and I will not teach my kids to be greedy. Our existence here is given to us by a greater force and should He, She, wish to take that away I will go happily and thank them everyday for the time I have spent here. The world is a beautiful place and we tarnish it sometimes with our behaviour and negligence. I truly think that through the ages we have lost respect of what really matters and will continue to lose it as adevertisements of material wealth steer us cunningly from the one great opulence...LIFE. Whatever fortune or misfortune is upon us look deep into your soul and question why you are here. Tomorrow will seem a brighter day...
