Sports and celebrities play a gigantic role in the lives of most dwellers in this universe. They create influences in any endeavors of people from all walks of life who are expectedly after for the attainment of goals and perfect happiness in living. Basically, their influences affect the individuals' quest for food, clothing, shelter and comfort. Their being famously recognized and adored can become the ultimate reasons why billions of fans and fanatics worldwide consider them as gods, goddesses, idols, heroes or stars. Their magnetism is so immense that lead followers to forget their own plight conditions and prioritize lifestyles that are in an aura of pretense and fiction.

We give credit to numerous celebrities who inspired and motivated millions and simultaneously obtained fame, glory and money from the enduring patronage of countless admirers who appreciate their looks, athletism, acting, singing, dancing, intelligence, service, courage and leadership. Even if they may not be rich for life, at least their names are etched in the annals of memory and history. We can easily remember Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, John F. Kennedy, Rod Laver, Pete Sampras, Babe Ruth, Bruce Lee, Frank Sinatra, Madonna, Nat King Cole, Michael Jackson, Sylvester Stallone and many more. Lately, we can immediately mention Manny Pacquiao, Barack Obama, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Baldwin brothers, Demi Moore, Tiger Woods, Michael Phelps, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Beyonce, Cyrus, Hanna, Britney Spears, American Idols and many, many more which may include the beauty queens and fascinating models. All of them are subjects of either worthy emulation and judgmental appreciation or blind imitation.

However, everything is not perfect, rosy and beautiful about the stars that we often perceive to live happily ever after. In the end, they also commit imperfections in spite of their wealth and popularity. We wonder why some if not most of them are reported to resort to drugs, alcoholism, wanton sex, AIDS, broken families, game fixing and other forms of vices and illegal activities when looking at a distance everything is afforded to them. We heard about their being lonely, empty and depressed that may be the starting point for having suicidal tendencies and seclusion from the public. Later on, there were headlines that banner their imprisonment, hospitalization, rehabilitation and even mysterious deaths. With these bizarre incidents, any sane citizen can prick his senses to understand what is reality and fantasy and what is right or wrong.

Take for example in the case of endorsing softdrinks by sports czars and celebrities. We tend to believe in them even if we know for the fact that they promote the said products for fame, money and glory. Instead, we should start to question why glamorize colas when they themselves are not fully amenable to the idea as loyal consumers just like druglords who do not abuse much in drugs, gun makers who run away from wars, car dealers who do not drive their advertised vehicles and beautiful models who do not wear their promoted dresses and cosmetics. We can continue to probe why celebrities allow themselves as pawns and baits in the commercials when researches revealed that softdrinks contain no nutrients but only large amount of sugar, caffeine, phosphate and acids that can cause tooth decay, weight problem, bone impairment, excitability, insomnia, nervousness, stomach upset, tremors and extra heartbeats. Moreover, researchers shared that colas cause consumers to urinate a lot and make them thirstier which encourage dehydration and when taken in much more volumes can lead to muscle paralysis. The pregnant women on the other hand, can feel tiredness, appetite loss and persistent vomiting. In the final analyses, we do not buy the idea of drinking sodas because we do not want to have diabetes, obesity, tooth decay and osteoporosis or impairment of the bones.

Yes! Sports and celebrities should not endorse softdrinks because of many disadvantages. They should not stand to become molded liars and great pretenders by committing themselves as robot models in commercialism and project bad influences through misleading bandwagon techniques and false testimonies. In this era of global economic crisis, consumers should be particular in choosing quality and healthful products. In a way, this is a practice of simple economics of saving money for ourselves and for the government, instead of allocating many amounts for consultation, medicines, rehabilitation and hospitalization.
