Fortunately or unfortunately depending on what side of the fence you are standing at the time. In America, we can find someone in the field of law to fight our battles and to hopefully win our cause. Both the legitimate ones and even those that might not be so.

Of course there are many professional and reputable attorneys that work hard for you with the highest intentions in place. Consider that they also are making a living in their practice. In order to bring in their share for their firm; they must win and collect a reasonable share of a clients settlement. This is their essential role, especially if they are a partner in a firm.

However, are we too eager to sue one another in America? From where I stand, I have seen both sides and would have to say yes. Although, not without some clarification. I think suing has been the "poor man's" hope to reconcile the wrongs that have happened to him. And at times they see it as their only recourse. They then seek a lawyer as a needed advocate.

Most everyone is in favor of legitimate suits and the right of everyone to have legal representation, and to get their rightful due. However, there are some poor victims that are lured into frivolous lawsuits; or even become part of political maneuvering. In these cases, the client may have been more victimized by an unscrupulous professional, then by the said event that preceded.

In America, our culture includes the opportunity to rectify wrongs. Much like our warranties, or guarantees that we expect when we make a purchase. After that, comes the opportunity to sue, and it is considered a worthy option. Thus, obligating the provider to fulfill the appropriate expectations of the consumer. Our insurance companies cover our cars, our homes and our belongings. And then what?

For some of us, it may be more the idea that we have the "right " to sue, rather then the act of "wanting to sue " in itself. In America we have the "right " to sue. It seems to be right up there with our other constitutional rights and part of our right to pursue happiness.

Yes, most Americans are impatient when they feel that they have been wronged. Some rightfully so. Americans most often, even sometimes too eagerly want justice served. And wrongs made right again. It is part of our American heritage.

However, we in our exuberance to sue, often run the risk of getting caught in the blurred lines and twisted fate of the unfortunate. Settlements are an appropriate outcome for some. Thankfully so. For others the process of suing may be less then just, and then sadly even designed to perpetuate itself.
